Thanks Daughter for the translations. Love them...
I have a question about the last line of the song (the one that repeats...)
að gæfan verður seint á vísum stað
(translation "that luck will not be easily found")
I noticed that on Google Translate, this line was translated with "in a safe place" at the end of the line.
That caught my eye and made me curious. Do you feel there's this same meaning or context in Icelandic...?
that "Luck will not be easily found in a safe place."
As one who only wishes he spoke Icelandic, and who loves his Music, I'm left a little curious about this...one of my favorite songs.
Takk Fyrir,
Drew
Well, google translate sometimes gets a little confused with icelandic in particular.
Vísum stað. Okay, it can mean safe place, as in " ooh, this will be a "vís staður" for my pretty necklace".
But, man this is hard to explain.
You have your necklace in your safe place, and you know it's there. That's kind of the pint of a safe place. But in this case you don't know where your necklace, or luck, is. It's not in your safe place. Therefore, not easily found. Is this understandable?
I confess, it's not the best translation, but I think I have backed up my story.
Takk fyrir daughter! Now I will be able to learn to sing the Icelandic song more easily. It is a very beautiful content, and I think, a good translation.
