Far Away, Far Away...

Far away, far away are the carefree old days,
I watch them fade away with such ease in a daze.
I hear Silence that keeps silent: she's not to blame,
I behold war and peace, I warm Night on my flame.

I'm a roadway, a roadway,
Yeah-yeah, a roadway, a roadway.

Somewhere far off from me there's no evil nor woe,
You gave water to me, I dived deep down below.
Just my mistress the Moon can be seen far away,
Wind and Shadows came soon, when she kissed the old day.

I'm a roadway, a roadway,
Yeah-yeah, a roadway, a roadway.

By the river we went, picking musical scales,
Now I see only trails of his feet on the sand...

I'm a roadway, a roadway,
Yeah-yeah, a roadway, a roadway.

Far away, far away...

I think it is war and peace.
Great song, thanks! How I never heard them...I do not know.

Мир да войну — do you think it’s about the book?

BratBrat    土, 22/09/2018 - 19:33

I think, it's about 'about the book'. ;)

До упрощения орфографии было слово миръ - отсутствие войны и мiръ - общество, окружающая среда и т.д.
Tolstoy's famous novel was called: "Война и миръ", but Mayakovsky's futuristic poem was called "Война и мiръ"
All these distinctions are lost now.

Война и мир - мы так привыкли воспринимать как war and peace
Но мир - это мир вокруг нас

Anyway, the other variant may read like this:
I hear, silence protrudes keeping quiet and tame,
I see war and the truce, I warm night with my flame.

I reckon that these line ends are designed to be crammed with triphthongs, like this:
I hear Silence that is keeping silence in quiet (the original line is a pretty untranslatable expression, though :D)
There I see war and peace, warming Night on the fire (I suppose that Silence, Moon, Day, Night, Wind, Shade are proper nouns here bearing metaphoric sense)

Далеко, далеко, где не зла, не беды , -> it should be "ни зла, ни беды", that means "no evil, nor woe"
Женовала -> that means Moon was a married woman when she was kissing Day
Also, "far away" is not in the sea, in fact, it's deep in the Night, which is a metaphor for Death, and water here is a metaphor for some mystical experience that he dived into so deeply
In the original rhyming pattern it could be something like
Far away, far aside, where no evil could be
You gave water to me, fathoms deep I have dived
Moon is/was married so far, at the dawn kissing Day
You can/could be seen afar, standing near Wind and Shade (tenses seem to be rather arbitrary here)
