Gloria

Gloria! The whole world already knows
your sorrowful looks, your sorrowful armour,
but now the whole world will call you
the Sorrowful Knight of the Sorrowful Face.

Gloria! Godspeed, knight,
Go and do your chivalieering1
Go and chevalieer with a vengeance.
But I know that, at night, lying under my liver2
I'll remember all this.

Gloria! The giants are already trembling.
Go and smash to a pulp
all the windmills in la Mancha
with your sorrowful looks, with your sorrowful armour.

Gloria! Godspeed, knight, godspeed
Go and do some battling3
Go and protect whomever you like,
but I will no longer be there, crowning the dotards4
But I will no longer be there to see that.

Gloria! The whole world already knows
your sorrowful looks, your sorrowful armour,
but now the whole world will call you
the Sorrowful Knight of the Sorrowful Face.
Gloria!

  • 1. that's an invented word in French too
  • 2. ??? maybe that implies the guy is a drunk or something, but "dessous mon toit" (under my roof) would sure sound a lot less weird
  • 3. "pourfendre" usually requires a complement, like "put something to the sword", so here it sounds like "go and do some putting to the sword"
  • 4. ??? another image that eludes me. Might be understood as "knighting old loonies" with a bit of a stretch, but "sacrer" is rather used for kings or bishops, and "gâteux" (senile) do not go well with the character of Don Quixote

Glad if it's for knowledge or understanding, sorry if it's just for money or fame.

A couple of lines sound plain wierd, but I don't know the plot well enough to decide whether the transcription is at fault or these peculiar metaphors just make sense in the context. Anyway...
