Kerran Ennen Kuoloaan

Pilvet raskaat, uhkaavaiset Suomen taivaan tummentaa,
Mutta Suomen miehet nukkuu unta vielä raskaampaa.
Heräämättä vaaran tullen untans nauttivat he vaan
Tantereilla, joita isät kostuttivat hurmeellaan.

Monta vaivan, vainon päivää kansa tämä nähnyt on;

Avosilmin kohdatkohon Suomen kansa kuolemaa.
Jos ei väisty surman nuoli, sammuttakoon kärki sen
Hengen valppaan, elonvoivan, uljaan, itsetietoisen.

Tora, riita mielessänsä Suomen kansa uinailee,
Unissansa oman rintans veriin hurja raatelee.
Taistelevans luulee eestä elon, voiton loistavan,
Vaikka nukkuin suljahtaapi suuhun synkän kuoleman.

Pilvet raskaat, raudankarvat Suomen taivaan tummentaa.
Ukon pilvet uhkaavaiset turmiota ennustaa.
Nosta ukko raivoon ilmas, pane nuoles satamaan,
Ehkä herää Suomen kansa kerran ennen kuoloaan!

Once Before Death

Heavy clouds threaten to darken the sky above Finland,
But the Finnish men are still sleeping even a deeper sleep.
Without waking up when the danger threatens, they just keep enjoying their sleep
On the fields that the fathers moistened with their gore.

Many days of hardship and persecution have these people seen;
Do I slumber now, it would lead to death without a fight?
As a young man, still without sleep, should I depart for Manala?
Like a decrepit old man who flames out in his sleep?

No, our fate cannot be that cruel!
With open eyes the Finnish people shall face death.
If the deathly arrow doesn't yield, then let its tip extinguish
The alert spirit, vitality, bravery, self-consciousness.

Quarrel, argument in their minds, the Finnish people sleep,
While sleeping the fierce one mauls his own chest bloody.
Thinking that he is fighting for his life, victory so superb,
Even while sleeping, a gloomy death slips into his mouth.

Heavy clouds, hairs of iron darken the sky above Finland.
Threatening thunder clouds foretell about the ruin to come.
Let the thunder raise the raging weather, rain down your arrows,
Maybe the Finnish people will wake up once more before death!

고마워요!
