The witch

There, where mists dwell,
Wolves in the morning lick the dew.
There, where’s deceit,
In the forest barred to everyone,
Lives she - the One —
My not yet born, my very own wife,
My own pain. My own blood.
My hidden, my esoteric love...

And on a piece of cardboard
Again I draw the image
Of a mysterious being -
A bewildering green-eyed witch.
So when I’d awake at midnight,
I could stick her with a needle
So that the witch would turn
Into a seemingly simple cardboard...

There’s an ocean,
Captains catch a wave at night.
There, a distant land will open 1
Dewy wind hits strings under moonlight.
There is a cross, a ring,
And a transparent face that flame brings.
My own pain. My own blood.
My own accursed love...

And on a piece of cardboard
Again I draw the image
Of a mysterious being -
A bewildering green-eyed witch.
So when I'd awake at midnight,
I could stick her with a needle
So that the witch would turn
Into a seemingly simple cardboard...

And on a piece of cardboard
Again I draw the image
Of a mercantile being -
A bewildering green-eyed witch.
So when I'd awake at midnight,
I could stick her with a needle
So that the witch would turn
Into a seemingly simple girlfriend...

  • 1. Akerman, my guess because it rhymes...

I'm afraid I don't have the answer to this one, D. If it's not Akkerman (and its fortress is located near a large body of water that could have something to do with the wind that touches the strings), then we'd have to assume it's an individual's name or a term we don't know.

There was also a poet called  Akerman , but I can't really see the point. Akkerman sounds plausible, even if the Black Sea is not an ocean (as you probably know). The rest of it I liked, except for that verse I don't understand : "Dewey wind hits strings under moonlight." For me, Dewey is a classification system for libraries. And where did you find that moonlight ? :)

Well,
Moonlight. I assumed the night when said captain was catching waves, our kind of a man - insomniac, was moonlit.
Your recently acquired desire to be precise is an interesting turn of events... lol, do you want me to mark the translation poetic - I didn’t dare...
Dewy beats humid, no? 😃

I read all references, and still, I think it’s akerman for the sake of rhyming. The only reference I liked, was of: “Tyras
Tyras and the other Greek colonies along the north coast of the Black Sea, 8th to 3rd century BCE
Tyras (Ancient Greek: Τύρας) was an ancient Greek city on the northern coast of the Black Sea. It was founded by colonists from Miletus, probably about 600 BC. The city was situated some 10 km from the mouth of the Tyras River, which is now called the Dniester. The surrounding native tribe was called the Tyragetae. The ruins of Tyras are now located in the modern city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in the Odessa Oblast of Ukraine.”

Ah, OK for "dewy", but you wrote "Dewey", hence my misunderstanding. 🌛
