Andai ao portal, pastores

Andai ao portal, pastores!
Vereis o Verbo encarnado
De rosas todo cercado,
Todo abraçado de amores!
Todo abraçado de amores!

Andai ao portal, pastores!
Andai! Andai ao portal, pastores!
Andai! Andai...!

Este Menino entre as frores,
Também duma fror nascéu!
Também duma fror nascéu!

Pastores, amigos meus!
Pastores, amigos meus!

Este Menino...

É o Deus do Céu!
É o Deus do Céu!
É o Deus do Céu!

Este Menino...

É o Deus do Céu!
É o Deus do Céu!
É o Deus do Céu!

Go to the Stable, Shepherds

Go to the stable, shepherds!
You shall see the Divine Word turned to flesh
All surrounded by roses,
Completely wrapped in loves!
Completely wrapped in loves!

Go to the stable, shepherds!
Go to the stable, shepherds!
Do go! Do go...!

This Child amidst the blossoms,
Has also been born from a flower!
Has also been born from a flower!

Oh Shepherds, my dear friends!
Oh Shepherds, my dear friends!

This Child...

Is the King of Heaven!
Is the King of Heaven!
Is the King of Heaven!

This Child...

Is the King of Heaven!
Is the King of Heaven!
Is the King of Heaven!

Bedankt!

I have some problems with understanding and translating the word "portal" in this context.
The shepherds didn't go to a portal/doorway/entrance.
Could it be the entrance of the stall with the manger
or is "portal" a word for a "manger" no longer in use?

Good morning, Bertram!

Thank you for your message. The translation was arroneous and I ought to have translated portal as stable - the notion of the Nativity scene taking place in a "portal", which is exclusive of Castillian and Portuguese culture, derives from the representation that is traditionally made of it; most often, the Holy family is represented as being by the stable's entry way.

I should have made a better translation, so sorry for the confusion.

Gave a lovely day! Regular smile

Metodius
