Ben Lomond (Scottish Gaelic: Beinn Laomainn, 'Beacon Mountain'), 974 metres (3,196 ft), is a mountain in the Scottish Highlands. Situated on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, it is the most southerly of the Munros.

Se dice, que la canción probablemente fue escrita por un joven soldado para su amor. Dos de los soldados de Bonnie Prince Charlie fueron capturados en Carlisle después del fallido levantamiento de 1745. Uno escribió la canción, el otro fue lanzado y lo llevó de regreso a Escocia para entregarlo al amor de su camarada.
