Bands or Singers involved in controversy

If you have suggestions don't suggest any deliberately or purposely controversial artist like Pink Guy or all those people that make racist content. But if the Artist is actually racist in real life then they could be included

And don't spam singers or bands that could fill up the whole like a a bunch of Saudi bands or singers being homophobic

1. Panda

They have been accused of plagiarizing up to 35 songs and there are entire groups called Anti Pandas dedicated to hating on them and exposing the their alleged plagiarism. And they have been booed at several festivals and even had things thrown at them once during a performance

Artiest | Argentina Rock

They were playing at the República Cromañon nightclub in 2004 when it caught fire resulting in the deaths of 194 people. República Cromañon was found to of violated several safety standards.

7 people were sentenced to prison because of the even the longest sentence being 20 years.

The band was incarcerated but has since been released. Many suspect the band encouraged the public to use flairs. A lit flare was also found to be the cause of the fire

The bands drummer would later be convicted for the murder of his wife

Artiest | France Rock

The lead singer Bertrand Cantat murdered his wife while in Lithuania and got a 8 year prison sentence of which he only served 4 years

4. Mayhem
Artiest | Norway Metal

Oh boy where to start with this one. There's so much to talk about so I suggest you read there wikipedia page

So they have been suspected to be connected to several church burnings in Norway.

And in 1991 one of the band members killed himself by shooting himself in the head with a shotgun. And when he was discovered by fellow band member Euronymous rather then calling the police we went to a nearby store bought a camera and photograph the corpse several times and it was even used as a cover for an album And even made necklaces out of pieces of his skull and gave them to fellow musicians. If your that curious type in "Dawn of the Black Hearts" In google images

And the biggest controversy in 1993 Varg Vikernes murdered Euronymous and was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the murder and an arson of which he only severed 15 of before being released in 2009 and moving to France. Also despite his denials he is accused of being a white supremacist and Neo-Nazi

If your interested read up on them there's to much to talk about here

5. T.O.P

During his military service (Which all male South Koreans are required to do) he served as a conscripted police officer. In june he was found to of been smoking marijuana and that he would be prosecuted without detention. Before the trail he was found unconscious in a police barracks due to a anti-anxiety medicine overdose of prescribed benzodiazepine. At trial he plead guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 2 years probation. But faced no punishment. He finished his military service on July 6th 2019

Unfamously known by the República Cromañon Tragedy in 2004, where 194 dead people after a fan lit a flare and set the place on fire (Let alone that the place had neglected many safety norms). Survivors and relatives of the victims believe that the band incited the public to use flares. All their members were incarcerated and then released (except for the drummer who was convicted for killing his wife).

Can you tell me a bit more about the drummer and that murder assuming it's unrelated to the fire

Diazepan MedinaDiazepan Medina    Ma, 16/09/2019 - 20:32

It's unrelated, it happened in 2010. He had a quarrel with his wife and sprayed her with alcohol and set fire on her. He has life sentence.

Ah also since you do a lot of Japanese translations I was wondering if you know of any Japanese bands or singers involved in a big contraversy

In 2010 France the mood was pretty tense, with heated debates about "national identity" and a right wing president repeatedly voicing moderately benevolent opinions about riff-raff and illegal aliens.

In this context, Nique la France ("Fuck France" - pardon my French) where the singer, among other things, evokes wiping his ass (oops, did it again) with a French flag, sparked a nasty polemic.

The guy was sued by a rather surreal lobby called "General alliance against racism and for the respect of French and Christian identity". The guys certainly are a persistent lot. 8 years later he was eventually condemned to a symbolic fine. After an appeal, the judgement was finally cancelled.
I guess the case could compete in the "longest storm in a teacup" category...

• Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin.

• Michael Jackson sexual-abuse alligators.(we all know the story...)

• Rick James holds woman hostage
He was convicted of kidnapping music executive Mary Sauger in 1991, but he took it to a whole new level while out on bail when he and his future wife Tanya Hijazi held 24 year old Frances Alley hostage for about six days, tying her up, giving her sexual demands and burning her with a crack pipe.

• Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins
was sentenced to 29 years imprisonment for sexual offences; including assault of young children.

• Sinead O'Connor disses the papacy
She ripped up a photo of Pope John Paul II after performing a version of Bob Marley's "War" on what would become the most controversial episode of "Saturday Night Live" ever on air in 1992.
(don't know if this one counts)

Thanks for the suggestions i'll have to add them later though.

Also know of any non american ones that could be on this list?

Keep in mind though something like a Saudi or Iranian singer or band having homophobic views I won't count

• Jim Gordon stabbed his mother

Gordon's strange behavior and violent outbursts began to manifest as early as 1969 (it was then that his father first urged him to seek help), although his schizophrenia went largely ignored and undiagnosed for several years. Auditory hallucinations plagued him, the most powerful of which involved his mother. Her voice would cause him pain, deprive him of sleep, starve him, and ultimately affect his ability to play the drums. On June 3, 1983, in an attempt to silence her voice inside his head, Gordon bludgeoned his real mother with a hammer and then stabbed her repeatedly with a butcher knife. Despite a well-documented history of mental illness, he was found guilty of second degree murder in 1984 due to a recently changed California law that restricted the insanity defense. Gordon was sentenced to 16 years to life.
