First, Musixmatch is easy to use, because it offers public search API with highly accurate results. In contrast Lyrics Translate is really unfriendly towards programmatic use and would require scraping.

Another is that Musixmatch is working with publishers and they often have lyrics available for a fresh release the moment it goes up — even if it lacks translation, that is already an added value. Lyrics Translate is community driven and it's up to a volunteer to first add the original lyrics, then to often another volunteer to provide the translation. Sometimes that process takes months if not years.

This leads to the third reason. Reddit archives posts older than 6 months; after that time you are no longer able to submit new comments. You can still edit them, but I don't want chrobot to make placeholder posts for possible future use, as that would be annoying to visitors. (This rules out replacing Musixmatch with Lyrics Translate.) Having that in mind, support for Lyrics Translate would pay off primarily for submissions of older songs.

What do you actually mean with this thread?

From what I've seen our users are fast when it comes to adding song lyrics - and even translations, in case of popular artists/songs. Taking for instance Eurovision songs, just check, some of them already have 20+ translations and the festival hasn't even started yet. It only depends on the circumstances, I guess, as I myself was the first to add several recently-released songs of artists and even translations (but from what I've seen I'm not into 'mainstream' artists as much as other users or I just do not care enough to translate their music as I know people will do it anyway). This doesn't make this website worse than Musixmatch (which, by the way, has an agreement with LT so we can show lyrics).

I know nothing of programming, so I can't say a word about it. But the site is pretty much functional for me and my needs, I don't think it's too hard or something. I'd only do some small changes in the mobile version, but nothing serious. I don't even use it to translate songs, honestly.

As for archives, there are instances where people need to give a thread an 'up' (for instance, to report mistakes in site interface, or to request something that was already asked before, etc.). I don't think we should archive old posts - I feel no need for us to do it by now.

That's random.

I don't know what you're talking about but I have to say that I prefer LT over Musixmatch (even for the "new" spotify feature that shows you synchronized lyrics along with the song). I don't like how anyone can edit a song in musixmatch. I remember I once uploaded a song I got from an OFFICIAL site. And someone came up and changed it because "it was wrong".

It says: "the Rites shall come to bear" (it's from a videogame. "Rites" is the name of a football-like game they play in order to save themselves from exile). Anyway, they kept changing it to "the rights shall come to bear". To this day it still says that. Even though I tried to change it several times, it got changed back. And in the end, my name doesn't even show at the bottom as a contributor because it only shows the last user who edited the song (I think it applies to the translation too, which is horrible but idk). Or at least It was like that 3-4 years ago when I tried to use that website.

Also, most songs (at least the songs I listed to) are incomplete and half of them are not even synchronized correctly. But hey, at least now I can sing along if I don't know the lyrics.

Anyway... Despite my personal aversion to musixmatch, I still don't see why this topic is relevant. No one is trying to replace musixmatch (???). Did you create an account just to say that out of the blue?

Okay, I think what he/she's saying is related to this post on Reddit (actually, it's a copy-paste of the first comment from that post): https://www.reddit.com/r/chrobot/comments/aeatpk/lyrics_translations_fro...

Basically, from what I understood "chrobot" is an automatic Reddit bot used for the "r/SlavicMusicVideos" subreddit.
That subreddit allows people to share music in Slavic languages with each other. chrobot was made by a user of the subreddit and its purpose is it automatically obtains lyrics and translations of submitted music from several sites (Musixmatch, Genius etc.) and comments links to them.

So basically someone suggested the person who made this bot (Reddit nickname: gbursztynek) to also support LyricsTranslate, as it looks like it has many translations other sites don't have; then gbursztynek answered with the message you see above.
So this other user (who might be the same who made the suggestion, who knows) signed up on LyricsTranslate and copy-pasted that response here.
Phew, it took me a 20-minute Google search to understand this, [@MilesSawyer] you should have given a little bit of context, lol.

By the way, I'm all for what's suggested in the first paragraph. LyricsTranslate is missing a public API to search and obtain lyrics and translations. For example, if I wanted to make a program which automatically retrieves the lyrics of a song from LyricsTranslate by its name it would be very hard: it would have to find and download the webpage of the song and parse it to take out the lyrics. An API would make it much easier, but it could take some time to implement.

For the second and third paragraph, there's nothing LyricsTranslate can do, it has to do with how it works. Lyrics and translations may appear on the website a long time after the song comes out, so the bot can't make use of it for newer songs due to limitations of Reddit.

So this message was not really a criticism of LyricsTranslate, rather it was an explanation of why it's unfeasible for a Reddit bot to retrieve lyrics and translations from it, which is a way more specific problem.

Wow, well now that makes sense. Thank you.
Still don't know what this user expects. They just threw this comment here without any context.

That's something they should discuss with the admins directly, since this is the "General language discussions" forum and I don't think any of us regular users are going to solve this "missing a public API" issue.

Por otro lado, I think it would be great if this works because that would give slavic translations (and LT) more visibility.

It no longer is - I just moved it into 'General discussions'. Or 'Suggestions' would fit better?

Yes, I think "suggestions" would fit better.

I'm kind of curious, is there a policy on LT on how to deal with meaningless posts threads?
One burner account copy-pastes something and we all jump in on a new distraction.

We don't, but it hasn't come to be necessary so far - when we notice an obvious spam thread they're quickly banned and then erased/unpublished.
