Runno

Lyökäät saatanat puukolla ringissä
Retkutelkaa te ruojat
Lukkarin vihdalla muututte lykkariksi
Valoterästä tanssittakaas
Jalalla koreasti retkun polkkaa
Saatanat puukolla suhatkaa

Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa
Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa

Runno sairas runno

Liivinraudat vihalla täyttää
Ei lopu raha, ei tartu ruma
Painehin taotut niskasuonet
Rinnat rahkosen raudasta
Rukiista pohjosen poika
Selkävillat sepän teräksestä

Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa
Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa

Runno ruoja runno
(Kouvolla kostuta kehoani)
Runno sairas runno
(Kouvolla suostuta sisuni)
Runno ruoja runno
(Kouvolla kostuta kehoani)
Runno sairas runno

Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa
Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa

Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa
Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa

Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Sydän surulla surmatkaa
Helluni sydän sydänsurulla surmatkaa
Runno ruoja runno

Submitter's comments:

I´ve got it from another page, so I don´t if it´s correct or have some mistakes 'cause I don´t speak Finnish.

Feel free to make any correction or notice me.
Thanks!

Poem

Strike the satans with a knife in a ring
Sprawl you scoundrels
With a sexton's birch whisk you'll turn into a ball sack
Lighting steel makes you dance
One dances with his feet a showy scoundrel's polka
Satans' whisk away with a knife [in their hand]

Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache
Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache

Poem, a sick poem

The inner hear is filled with hatered
One will not run out of money, the ugliness won't stick
Into the imprints are forged into one's neck veins
Breasts made of solid iron
Boy of the North made of rye
Back hairs made of smits' steel

Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache
Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache

Poem a scoundrel poem
(With Kouvola I moisten my body)
Poem, a sick poem
(With Kouvola I persuade my inner strength)
Poem a scoundrel poem
(With Kouvola I moisten my body)
Poem, a sick poem

Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache
Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache

Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache
Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache

Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache
Kill the heart of my loved one with a heartache
Kill the heart with a heartache
Poem a scoundrel poem

I must thank you a lot for your translation!!!
Here are some notes.
1. I added the missing lines that didn't were before. Feel free to add them to your work.
2. I've consulted a dictionary and there's a difference between Runo (with one N) and Runno (double N). Can you tell me how much am I wrong???
Thanks again

Thank you for your feedback. As to issue 1. I made the necessary corrections to reflect the new source lyrics. As to issue 2. You’re correct, the word “Runo” is textbook Finnish and therefore it will be in any dictionary. However, in this case “Runno” is part of regional dialect, mostly used in eastern part of Finland. Nevertheless, they’re synonymous.

The source lyrics in this case are not your everyday Finnish. They’re cryptic, and I guess that the person who wrote them wanted them to be that way to add a sense of regional poetry to them.

Please feel free to contact me via PM if you have any further questions. I look forward to your reply. Have a great day! 😃

I think that in this case the 'runno' comes from the word 'runnoa' aka 'to beat up'

Thanks for the feedback. That's certainly one interpretation, I don't interpret it that way though.
Of course, you're welcome to add your own translation of this song if you feel that mine is inaccurate.
