Dance Ballad

Versions: #1#2
Sunshine in a puddle
A kiss on the cheek from the wind
And the reed that hums
that life will start
it’s spin in your mind

Whistling from a tree top
A slight tag-sound from a cat
A ripple in the brook
A hiss in the bush
That tell us the night is over

The meadow is wet from dew
Lady Dawn goes to sleep
The day rises Puck-playfully1 from the bed
And walks over the sun’s bridge

And the two of us?
What about the two of us?
Yes, what about the two of us, you and me?
I dance and dance and stop
And sense only you
Oh why did you run away?

Come back, come back
Come back, you’re my beloved friend
Come back, come back
Where you want to go, we’ll dance to

Come, let’s dance
Anything can happen
Come, let’s dance
Let’s dance, let’s laugh

Whistling from a tree top
A slight tag-sound from a cat
A ripple in the brook
A hiss in the bush
That tell us the night is over

The meadow is wet from dew
Lady Dawn goes to sleep
The day rises Puck-playfully from the bed
And walks over the sun’s bridge

And the two of us?
What about the two of us?
Yes, what about the two of us, you and me?
I dance and dance and stop
And sense only you
Oh why did you run away?
Come back, come back

Beloved friend

Comments van auteur:

The Danish word for friend ("ven") is technically the male version of the word and as such was often used in the sense of "boyfriend" in the past, which is likely the case here. The reason I don't just translate it as that is because it's meant to subtle - the more direct word would still have been "kæreste" in the 60s, too.
