Hello there! I just started translating on this great website a few days ago and have got some translations finished but I decided not to publish them before I added footnotes on them for I need to make some comments on certain words and expressions. I went to the Frequently Added Questions where I did read what is related to my problem, but it didn't work when I tried it: it actually deleted a part of my translation. Can you please tell me (with concrete examples) how to add footnotes on both the translation and the comments? Thank you very much.

You put “fn” in square brackets in the beginning of your footnote and “/fn” in square brackets at the end
Simple HTML

You can also switch to the rich text editor to explore more great features :)

The comments here are rather confusing for someone who is not a HTML programmer.

Putting it simply:
just write <fn>TEXT OF YOUR NOTE </fn> in the place where you want it.
