Dă-mi

Very good translation :).

Hello Slyzder,

Recently, a LT moderator wrote me these lines:
One may rate a translation only if he/she can speak both languages involved.
As for the "thanks" key, one may click it when they want to thank someone for a translation, whether they can speak the languages involved or not.
-
I read your presentation - Languages: native German, studied Latin.
You rated this translation with five stars and added: Very good translation.
How can you guess it is a very good translation, if you don't know English nor Romanian language?
Or shall we understand that someone from Germany knows always English and Romanian?

I wonder.

SlyzderSlyzder    Zat, 07/12/2013 - 08:56

Basically I'm fluent in English and I started translating the song by myself into Romanian. However I finally didn't do it, because I thought it'd be better if a native speaker did it. Nontheless in this manner I looked up many words for my translation, which I find again in the translation, for example "povara", which means "burden" and so I think it is a good translation. I'm by the way proficient enough to understand for example "Vreau să te vindec", so I feel justified to vote.
I also know Ancient Greek and French, but I didn't add them in my profile, because I think a study is then completed, when you passed through all the grammar of the language. Thus I also don't add Romanian in my profile.

Greets Slyzder

I agree with that but I handle the languages in my profile a bit different: I list under "studied" all that I have either learned to a level that I wouldn't call me a beginner anymore or which I currently am learning. Under "fluent" I put the languages in which I can fluently write/talk myself. But since we don't have any fixed rules for that it's up to you how you handle that. It just seems like a good idea to avoid accusation like the one by Valeriu Raut here by making the list a bit more complete.
I rarely vote on translations other than those from English to German and the other way round since even Latin (the language I know third-best) I don't know well enough to really tell how good a text written in it is.

ScieraSciera    Vrij, 06/12/2013 - 22:57

I'd normally agree with Valeriu Raut on that. But the comments you wrote beneath other Romanian translations give me the impression that you do know at least some Romanian. If you don't know how well this translation is done then remove your vote. If you do, then it's fine but it would be helpful if you'd add the information which languages you know into your profile.

Is his addressed to Slyzder and comes to me, Roster? I don't know Romanian, and my profile indicates what I am proficien at.

ScieraSciera    Vrij, 06/12/2013 - 23:28

Huh? What do you mean by "Is his addressed to Slyzder and comes to me"? Did you receive a notification about this discussion?

roster 31roster 31    Zat, 07/12/2013 - 02:17

Yes, I did.
Correction: "is THIS....

ScieraSciera    Zat, 07/12/2013 - 10:13

Strange, that must be some bug, I'm gonna tell the admins about it.

You know what?
I made a comment on a translation I saw by accident (Idon't even remember the name of the translator), she said she didn't speak Russian, and that she had used Google; and there was your comment sayind "read THIS and THIs". Maybe that has something to do with it.

ScieraSciera    Zat, 07/12/2013 - 13:04

Dunno, seems rather unlikely to me.

I would have to provide some notes on the translation over the course of time having elapsed. Back then in 2013, I may not have cast and reasoned my vote correctly. This should however not be associated with a negative intention but rather regarded solely as a review that may be aiding to the translation.

First stanza:
"distanța îți vede deghizarea" --> "distanța vede prin deghizarea ta"

Refrain:
Verbs like "a depune pe", "a pune pe", "a lăsa pe", "a așeza pe" would reflect the meaning of the English verb more precisely.

Second stanza:
The term "singur" needs to be removed or to be replaced with a translation of the English reflexive pronoun.

Third stanza:
"lasă să fie" --> "lasă-o să fie"
