Nicat Hemzetov and incredible55 are correct. He was born in Azerbaijan, which at that time was part of the USSR. Since it no longer exists, it is correct to put him in Azerbaijan. Thank you for reporting.

We could even try to add USSR/Soviet Union to the country list, but it could cause trouble. So it's better to put in Azerbaijan.

Yes, of course he is from Azerbaijan. Even his name is an Azerbaijanian name. @barsiscev , Azerbaijan was a part of USSR. USSR is not only Russia. It included some countries like Azerbaijan SSR, Ukraine SSR, Armenia SSR, Georgia SSR, Russia SSR and etc. And he was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. I edited it.

Muslim Magomayev is correct, too, no need to add anything else.

Generally if you can spell an artist's name in a different language or script, you add the alternative name(s) to the "Original name" part.

Azerbaijani is also written in the Latin script, so this one looks fine to me, don't fix what's not broken.

He's not Russian, there's no need to write the Russian version of his name.
