I firmly believe translation is art. The one I'm willing to master.
Music is my life, and I enjoy translating the lyrics of my favourite songs, so that I could share them with a wider audience.
My favourite music artist is Victor Argonov, a Russian scientist, transhumanist, philosopher and blogger. I love the way he writes his music and the ideas he conveys in the lyrics. All of his existing works are in Russian, but I've translated all of them and put on this website, so be sure to check them out (they go under Complex Numbers and Victor Argonov Project titles)!
Also, I'm keen on animation and cartoons. And I find it interesting to translate character phrases, since one needs to understand their spirit and express it in the best way possible. That's why I'm aiming to become a professional audiovisual translator and work in this sphere.
I'm a great fan of Invader Zim franchise. Even though, Invader Zim, both as a cartoon and a comic, has never been officially released in Russia. Thus, I've started my Russian IZ Fans Project, the goal of which is to translate all the existing English official Invader Zim-related materials into Russian. I hope my efforts will help to bring more attention of the Russian-speaking audience towards the franchise.
Speaking generally, I think translation is a very good practice of looking at things in a way different from your personal views, thus it helps to become a more open-minded person. Which is good.
As for the other interests of mine, those are transhumanism, philosophy, international relations and politics, psychology, science fiction, videogames and drawing.
I'm an International Relations Bachelor, aiming to become a professional translator in the audiovisual translation industry.
I was learning translation at university within the boundaries of my specialty. Apart from that, I gain my experience by making translations of the things like song lyrics, comics, subtitles, etc.
Here, on this website, I mostly translate lyrics of the Russian songs into English. I usually translate the text the way it is, trying not to add or subtract anything from what the songwriter wanted to say. It's basically literal translation with no rhythm and no rhymes.
However, if I feel like doing so, I try to create singable translations or translyrics. Most of the ones I have are ENG to RUS, but I have some RUS to ENG, too.
I don't usually create literal translations of English songs because I find it boring, I see no challenge in it. Also, a lot of people know English anyway, whereas Russian isn't that popular among the English speakers. There might be exceptions though, when I decide to translate some kind of popular songs that are trending.
Anyway, I hope you'll find my song translations helpful!~
