No, mi viejo.

¿Iba a seguir viviendo?

19 December 1971

Yeah, I know now some people say we were bastards for what we done with the old Casale, I know. There's always people like that. But now is easy to say it, now is easy. But you had to be those days in Rosario to understand it, man, because everybody now are wasting time talking.

I don't know if you remember what was Rosario on those days before the game. Not only "those days". From weeks before they were all talking about the game and the city was a boiler, because that's how the city was! Of course, those boys who talk now are those rascals who later you see them jumping and shouting by the streets like morons, partying drunk and screaming and now they come out that they are all... what?... moralists... What are you showing off, motherfuckers? Now you're all cool, it's so easy to talk. But if you see how was the city back then, man, you lit a fire and all would blow up. They weren't talking about anything else at the pubs, the streets, anywhere. Sparks were coming out, indeed. And the thing started with the good luck charms stuff. Or rather, the curses stuff.

You gotta understand that it wasn't like any other match, man, this was a final final. Because in spite it was a semifinal match, the winner would come later to Rosario and fuck any other team. Whether Central or Newells, we would have a party with any other team. And how were the lepras! That, that's what they should remember now those who talk for nothing and come to piss us off with the old Casale thing! Don't these assholes remember how the lepras were back then? Don't they, man? We had to endure them because they felt like they were running an easy race, they were running an easy race, man, I even believe that they thought they would fill our baskets. Not only that they would tear our asses up but also that they would score us five goals, at the Monumental and for the TV. Oh, gimme a break and go fuck yourselves! How the hell these ass fucked would score five goals to us! They stuffed it folded! What a dick they got stuffed since that day and they can't take it off!

But honestly, honestly, man, with a hand in my heart, they had a team, but a team that was almighty.

We had to recognize it. Because they played to bring happiness, a good style for playing and they thrashed you awfully. There was Zanabria, Marito Zanabria; the Mono Obberti. My god, the Mono Obberti, what a great player! Silva who was from Lanús, the builder. Montes! Montes with the number five; Santamaría, the Cucurucho Santamaría, I don't know, they had a team, a great team I have to recognize, and the lepras were running an easy race. Do you know how many of them were on the route to Buenos Aires on the game day? I don't know, they were thousands, millions, I don't know where did so many leprosos come from. They're four cats and suddenly for that game, those bastards appeared like ants. Everybody came out. How was the route, oh my god! So, listen, you had to resort to anything. There are matches that you can't lose, you have to win or win. No buts. So if they tell me that I had to kill my mom, to shoot President Kennedy, I don't give a damn, man. There are matches that you can't lose. So what? Will you let yourself be trashed by these turds to later, rub the flag in your face all your life? No fucking way. So, in this case you had to resort to anything. Is like when you have an ill relative, you know? for example your mom, that maybe for her you would go to church, you know? And I say, I didn't go to church that time, I didn't go to church because I swear I didn't think about it, incredible, because if I did... I swear that I would confess myself and all that stuff if it was useful for something. But with the boys we got hooked with the witchcraft thing, the fringed rue, burying a toad behind Fenoy's goal, pouring salt at the gate of the Newells players and all that stuff everybody talk about. Of course all the witch doctors of the neighborhood were already working on that and there were toys with the Newells shirt nailed with needles and pins, curses ordered by phone and even my mom who doesn't pay much attention to that had a handkerchief tied for like ten days, of those of "Pilate, Pilate, if Central doesn't win in River, I won't untie you". Later mom said that we won because of her, poor old mom, if she knew about the old Casale, but I was telling her yeah to not disillusion her.

But all that stuff of the fringed rue and the toad behind the goal were, I don't know, very general things, there were already guys who were doing it and besides, the game was in the Monumental and you're not gonna get to the Olympic track to bury a toad because you'll end up in jail with thirty life sentences and neither God can get you out, man. So, I remember we started with the personal lucky charms thing. Because I remember we were at the Pedro's pub and we were talking about that. So, for example, we decided that we would go to Buenos Aires on Dani's car because on that car we went once to La Plata for a game versus Estudiantes and we won two nil. I would take, of course, the hat that I was taking to the field for the latest games and never failed that hat. I would take that hat, it was a miracle hat. Coqui would go with the watch changed of place, I mean in the right wrist instead of the left, because at some game versus I-don't-know-what-club he switched it on half-time because we were losing and with that we drew. So, everybody checked all the charms possible as for going perfectly and not leaving any detail uncovered. Even more, we were like half hour arguing how the hell we were standing on the stands in the game versus Atlanta to stand in the same way in the game versus the lepras. The dickhead of Michi said that he was behind the Valija and Miguelito insisted that it was him who stood behind the Valija. Look at that, we've even studied that before the game, to see how things were going on those days. And do know what leads you to do that, man, do know what leads you to do that? Fear, man, the fear, the fear makes you do anything, like what we did to the old Casale.

Because in the case that we lost, oh mother, we would have to leave the city, man, we would have to take refugee abroad, I swear, we would never return here anymore. We would look like those Cambodian refugees who drifted away on a raft. I swear that if we lost we would get on board of the "Ciudad de Rosario" boat and through there, through the Parana, everybody, millions of canallas would have to leave, I don't know, to Diamante, to Peru, to Cuzco, to fucking hell, but we would never be able to live again here with the taunts of the fucking leprosos, man. Miguelito already said it clearly that he would do it, that if we lost he would get a gun and blow his head off and I say that Miguelito is able to do that and much more because Miguelito is a crazy man, so we had to believe him. Or become a hooker, I don't know who told the chance of going homo and see you later alligator, to cross-dress and coming out dressed as hooker by Pellegrini and never return home anymore. But, I say, nobody even wanted to feel to hear of that chance. Not even the word "defeat" could be named.

It's like when you talk about cancer, man. You see that over there they tell you "the potato" or "he has something else", "something bad", but the crab, man, nobody mentions it. And there is when comes to light the issue about the old Casale.

The old Casale was the father of the Cabezon Casale, a guy who always came to the pub and who for many years came to the field with us but about that time he already went to live to the north, I think he went to Salta, I saw him days ago over here, that he was passing by. And then we remembered that one day, at the Cabezon's house, the old man said that he never, never, ever, saw Central losing against Newells. I remembered that we were impressed because that guy was a privileged of destiny. Though at first you might wonder, "How the fuck did that guy to never see Central losing against Newells? What the fuck did he do? This dude never goes to the field." Because, hey, once you had to see Central losing, unless you don't go to the classics. And watch out that I know many people like that, who wipe out and disappear from the classics. Or who go to the Arroyito, but never in their lives put a foot on the Parque's field. And I remember we asked that to the old man and he said no, and explained us. He was always going to the games, he was a Central fan like no other, but it happened, whatever, a series of coincidences that made that on many games against Newells he couldn't go for a lot of causes that I can't even remember. That he was on a trip by Misiones -the guy was a commission agent-; that on that day he had a twisted ankle and couldn't walk, that he had a flu, that his balls were itching, whatever, anyway, the truth, man, is that the old man really really never had the chance of seeing a game where the lepras thrashed us. That old man was a privileged and also, he was a talisman, man, because just like there are guys who are jinxes who make you lose games wherever they go, there are guys who if you take them to the field is completely sure that your team wins. It's not a joke. And the old Casale was one of them, the privileged ones.

So we said there "That guy must be in the Monumental versus Newells. There's no other choice. He must be there."

Of course, we said, surely he will be there, since he's a Central fan, canalla till death. But we had doubts about it, you know? because it wasn't that we saw the old man every day, even more, since the Cabezon went to the north to work, we haven't seen his dad nor in the field, nor in the street nor anywhere. Besides, the old man was already very senior because he had to be like eight years old back then. Bah, he wasn't really eighty years old, but he had his sixty, sixty five years at least under the feet.

So, with the Valija, the Colorado and Miguelito we're like "let's go to the old man's house to be sure that he goes and if he doesn't, we'll take him tied". Because it could be possible that the old man can't come because he has no money, whatever. We already though of doing a raffle to his benefit, a festival, anything. The dude had to go, he was a flag, a blank check.

The thing is that we went to his home and... don't you know what the old man says? That he was suffering of the heart and the doctor completely forbade him to go to the field, incredible. He comes out with that. That no way. That he had a heart attack on I don't remember which game, a shitty game after a ball hit the post, that he has been dead like half an hour and they saved him between the guys with artificial respiration and massages in the heart, that he didn't kick the bucket by pure chance and that he had such fear that he hasn't go to the field again since, look what I say, two years.

It's been two years that he wasn't going to the field! And it wasn't only he that he didn't want to go but also the doctor, and also the family, completely forbade him to go, logically. I don't know if they have forbid him even to listen to the game on the radio, I don't know if they have forbid him, for his heart not to stop still, because it seemed that the old man was hearing a very strong fart and felt like dying, he was so fucked up. You would do an Oooh! in his face and he would break. For what! Just imagine ourselves, the desperation, because this was like an omen, a warning from hell, man, it was a warning that they were going to fuck us in Buenos Aires, man. So we started to try to roll the old man down the hill, to convince him, to say "But look, Mr Casale, you have to be there, it's a date of honor, how you're suffering of the heart, if you look like a brand new car! Come on, Mr Casale. -I remember Miguelito teasing him- How many times you get laid on a day? you're as healthy as a bull." But the old man, nothing, in his thing. No way, no way.

We told him that the game was going to be a joke, that Newells had a shitty team and that on the first quarter we would be winning three nil, that the game was just a formality, that the government already decided that Central had to win to make the most people happy. I don't know, I don't know the amount of bullshit we said to the old man to convince him. But the old man, nothing, a fucking insensitive rock. To make matters worse his wife, Cabezon's mother, and a sister of the Cabezon started to wander around, wanting to know what the hell we wanted to say tot he old man on that meeting, because they were like suspecting that we weren't going for anything good. To sum up the old man said no, no way, he didn't even know if he would be able to resist the tension of knowing that the game would be played, even without hearing it. Because the old man read the newspapers, he wasn't that stupid, and knew how things were going, how was the thing, how the teams were set up, the substitutes, the history, statistics, jerseys, color, everything. He said even more. "That day -he told us- very early, before the trucks and the buses go with the people to Buenos Aires, I'm going to the country house of a brother of mine who lives in Villa Diego." The old man didn't want to hear neither the honks. "I'm going early to my brother's house, since he doesn't give a fuck about football, and I'll spend the day there, without listening to the radio nor anything." Because the old man said and he was right, that if he stayed at home, no matter if he locks himself in the closet, he would hear anything, some yell, some goal, he would hear anything, poor man, and he would stay dead there. So he was going to stay at the country house of that brother he had, to stay out of the matter.

Well, well. I say that we came out undone from there because we saw that things were going bad. It was almost a sure fact for saying that we were screwed. To make matters worse, for Valija, the day before an aunt of the country came to visit him and he remembered that, on a game that we lost against San Lorenzo, that aunt came to visit him the day before. The aunt was an ill-fated omen.

That's when we decided the kidnapping. We went to the pub and on that night we talked about it seriously. Dani said no, that it was atrocious, that the old man would die on the trip, or in the field, and after we would have a huge fuss and we would all end up in jail and that, besides, it would be almost murder. But we didn't pay much attention to Dani because he was always an exaggerated and more than an exaggerated, Dani was some kind of asshole. But we were well decided and more than anything for something Valija said: the dude was perfectly healthy. He had a heart attack, it's true. But there are thousands of people who had a heart attack and you see them walking quietly down the street without making so much fuss like this old asshole, with this thing of staying inside a closet, or not going to the field, or letting the family control you like the wife and the other, the Cabezon's sister. On the other hand, and you know it, doctors are motherfuckers, real motherfuckers who you see them trying to make the old man last a thousand years to make money from him, doing experiments on him and sucking his blood. And also, like Miguelito said and it was true, you saw the old man and he was so lively. With sixty-something years I don't say that he looked like a teenager but he was fine. He walked, he talked, he sat, whatever, he moved. He drank! Because he invited us with Cinzano and the old man drank his shot, I don't mean a full glass but his shot he gulped. The thing is that Miguelito made a theory that I say, even today, I still don't find it ridiculous. The old man was another motherfucker, man! A big motherfucker who profited with the heart thing to live well and never work again in his fucking life. With the heart sermon he didn't lay himself out, they attended him like a king and had his wife and Cabezon's sister keeping an eye on him living like a king, the old man. And... what he denied himself? Some cigarette; though I don't know if he smoked hidden; and not going to the field. Look at that, that was all. And the asshole lived like Caroline of Monaco. Well, with that plot and with what the Colorado said all was solved.

The Colorado talked to us about the great ideals, our mission in the face of society, our duty in the face of future generations, the children. He told us that if we lose the game, thousands and thousands of children would suffer the consequences. That for us, and it was true, was going to be tough, but we were already had our fate cast, that we already had what is ours and, in any case, we had experiences in the bad times and troubles. But the children, the Central children, those, they would have for the rest of their lives a scar that would mark them forever, like a hot iron. That the taunts those kids were going to receive, those children, in the school, would smash them up, would rot their brains forever, there were going to be one or two generations of knackered out people, reduced before the leprosos, fearful of coming out to the street or showing themselves in public. And that's true, man, because I remember how were the taunts on primary school over all.

I remember when we lost five three with the lepras in el Parque after we were winning two nil, when the Colorado Bertoldi switched sides, that he might still is spending the money, and I swear that for a week I couldn't get up from the bed because I didn't dare to go to school to bear the taunts of the lepra. The kids are very bastards for taunting, they're very cruel. Didn't you see how they quarter bugs, they grab a lobster and rip off all their legs? Kids are true sons of bitches in that sense. And what the Colorado said was true. Now everybody talks about the foreign debt, that for the shit of four motherfucking bastards who pawned the country, we have to pay it all of us and our children and the children of our children. And if it was up to us to do something for not to make it happen, we had to do it, man. Besides, like the Colorado said, it wasn't only the trouble with the taunts of the Newells children, there's also the trouble with the triumphalism. Children see a team winning and they become fans of that team, they're that scatterbrained. They're fans of the champion. So, let's suppose that Newells won and... to hell!... from then on all the kids become Newells supporters, stand by it. And it will be futile to take them to the field, to talk with them, to talk about Gitano Juarez or the Flaco Menotti, nor gifting them the Central's shirt when they're born. It's all futile. Children see that River is the champion and they become River fans. They're like that. And on that time it wasn't like now that, one way or another, you take them to the Gigante field and kids get overwhelmed. Then, when they go to the Parque's pigsty, no matter how good team could have Newells, children think "I can't support this shanty town" and they support Central. Because all goes through the eyes and you see that now children over there haven't even seen Central or Newells and they become Central fans by the stadium. It's another time, children are more materialists, I don't know if it's the TV or whatever, but the thing is that with the buildings they get overwhelmed.

So the thing was clear, we had to kidnap the old Casale, or else to bear that fifteen, twenty years later, for example today, the city gets full of leprosos born from that game, and do you know how it would be today? Beirut would be a rose garden compared with that, man, I swear.

The one who set up the "Operation Eichmann", like we called it, was the Colorado. We called like that because of that german general, the torturer, who was captured by the jewish from here, you know? and out thing was kind of the same. The Colorado is a very brainy man, who has his head well functioning and he organized everything. The Colorado back then wasn't any more in the A.L.C.O.. The A.L.C.O., I don't know if you know them, is an organization from here, in Rosario, it's called like this because are initials, A.L.C.O. "Anti Lepra Canalla Organization". They're a bunch of dudes like the Ku Klux Klan, more or less, who gather on secret meeting and I don't know if they go wearing conical hats and all that to the meetings, or if they burn a leproso alive on every meeting. Look, I don't know if it's necessary to be a Central supporter, but sure sure, what you have to do is to hate the Lepra. You have to hate the Lepras more than what you love Central.

They make meetings, they write the minutes book, they think of curses to the lepras, they celebrate holidays of games that we won, they have anthems, they're like those guys, the francmasons, who nobody knows who they are. They go with torches. Well, about the A.L.C.O., they expelled the Colorado from the A.L.C.O. for being too fanatic, that says it all. But the Colorado is so intelligent and he was who set up all the operative.

And I tell it because it's beautiful, I tell it because it's beautiful, I don't know if one of these days it appears on the Reader's Digest. We found out what bus line goes to Villa Diego, where the Old Casale's brother had his country house. From where the old man lived, around San Juan street fourteen hundred, the only bus line that left him there was, as I remember, the 305 going by San Luis street. So the old man had to take the bus in San Luis and Paraguay or San Luis and Corrientes, not beyond there unless he was so stupid and take it on Bulevar Otoño that I don't know why the hell he would do that. Now, the question was if the old man was going on bus or in car, because if he was going on car he would spoil us, but we bid that he would take the bus because he didn't have a car and surely his brother didn't have too because he surely was a starving geezer like him. And I say that things was going perfectly, because the old man told us that he would go out very early to not have an attack with the honks so that we could suit it with our exit time for the game. Because we would be fucked up if he was going out at one in the afternoon for Villa Diego because later, how we would get to Buenos Aires for the game time with the jams on the route and on an intercity bus? The most probable thing is that we would crash on the way by running full speed. And on the other hand, man, Villa Diego is on the route to Buenos Aires so the thing was really sheer luck.

Then we had to talk with the other boys, because convincing Rulo didn't cost a thing, he didn't mind at all and, besides, we told him the secrets of the issue. I say that the Colorado handled the thing like a boss, a genius. The thing was this, Rulo is a friend and a Central fan who has a couple of buses, the Rulo was OK. And on that time he had a couple of buses of the 305 line. It was so much fortune for us, because if he hadn't we would have to get another bus, change its color, paint it, whatever, to put the number, a huge job to do. But Rulo had two buses of the 305 line and with one of them he already thought of getting away to the Monumental on the match day and also he would take like a thousand boys going there too. He would take it out of service and tell everyone to fuck off, he wasn't going to miss the game.

So, Rulo, with the dudes on and us, had to be with the bus ready, the engine on, parked on España street. And Miguelito would stay on guard, drinking coffee, at the pub over there where they could see the door of the old Casale's house. I think that around five in the morning, Miguelito was there stationed at the pub playing the distracted and peeping at the old man's house. I swear that not even the Tupamaros could have made such operation. It was wonderful.

As soon as he saw the old man coming out with a basket where he surely had some home made beef or something like that, Miguelito got on a Vespa bike he had back then, he went around the block and warned us. He loaded the bike in the bus, in the back of the bus, behind the last seats and we went underway.

We already told three or four young boys, of those who are the fuss-makers of the gang, to play dumb, to not say a single word and pretend to sleep deeply. We too, so the old man doesn't notice us, we were on the back seats, playing the asleep, even with our faces covered with some sweater, as if the light hurts us, or with some jacket.

I say that the day started with a cold and rainy dawn, like on that other national holiday, 25 May. Besides, we had trouble with saving and hiding all the flags, the honks, the bags with confetti, the flasks, all that. One of the boys had a fucking huge flag that was 52 meters long. fifty two fucking meters long, man! A half block long flag saying "Empalme Graneros is here" and we had to put it under a seat so the old man doesn't look.

The thing is that the old man got o board half asleep and sat on one of the front seats that we already left free on purpose so he doesn't see much of the bus. Rulo charged him the ticket and all that. And nobody was talking as if we didn't know each other. And since the bus was doing the normal tour, the old man was going so happy, looking through the window. The thing is that we reached to Villa Diego and the old man was quiet. From time to time, when some car was passing with a flag on top and honking, the old man looked to the ones he had near and moved his head like saying "Incredible!"

It seems that he wanted to have a talk but nobody wanted to pay much attention to not step on one of these. So we all pretended to be asleep. It looked like someone threw sleeping gas on the bus, man. Like when some guy dies, you know? that he starts to fall asleep with the car on and the carbon monoxide kills him, I think. Well, it looked like we all had the carbon monoxide. But, when we reached to Villa Diego, around there the old man gets up and says to Rulo "On the corner, please". And I don't know what Rulo said to him, something that he couldn't stop there, that the traffic was closed there, that he had to stop later on and the old man believed it, but he kept standing by the door. Later,of course, the old man says "On the corner, please". Then the Rulo stared at us, because he had nothing left to say him. And then, man... you don't know how was that! It was like if we all agreed and I swear that we haven't even talked it. The boys started to display the flags, to get the honks and the flags out of the window, and shouting through the windows "I'm Canalla, I'm canalla!".

But no on the old man side, poor old man, I can't describe with words the face he had, only in the outside, because the gang dudes, as fuss-makers they are, were holding it up until there without screaming nor making a fuss to not snitch with the old man, but when the moment came they grabbed the flags, they started to put the arms out of the windows and hitting the plates on the bus side and also Rulo started to follow the beat with the honk.

Did you watch those cowboy movies, when the robbers are going to assault a wagon where it looks like there's nobody, or that only a couple of kids drive it and suddenly they take off the cover and 17.000 soldiers come out and start shooting? That they take off the cover and they were all like playing dumb? Well, that bus had to be something like that. Suddenly it became a mess, a scandal, of yellings, of honks, bugles, a whole party. And the people by the route! Because since the dawn there were already people on the sides of the route waiting for the fans caravans. It was a tearjerker, this, it was touching, they were saluting you, they were shouting, they were raising the fists, sometimes a hidden lepra appeared and threw a stone... But I'm back to the old man, the old man, you don't know what face he had. Because we were staring at him because we were saying: this is the key moment. On that moment the old man, or his heart fails and falls dead, or he would go on. The old man was looking back, all the monkeys jumping and singing and he couldn't believe it. He sat back and I think that until San Nicolas he didn't say a word. I say that Rabano, the son of Nancy already offered to do mouth to mouth breathing if that was the case, which it was something that, on one way or another, we avoided because, I don't know, you feel a bit disgusted and even more with an old man.

But look, I'll cut the story short. Look, when the old man realized that there was no way to fix it, that there was no chance that we would let him get off the bus, he surrendered, but he really surrendered. Because, at first, we got close to him and he cursed us,he said that we were irresponsible, we were murderers, we had no conscience, that it was a shame, whatever he said everything. But later, when we told him that he was fine, that he was as healthy as a bull, that if he resisted the surprise of the bus it meant that his could resist everything, he started to calm down. The Colorado even told him that all was a ploy from us to show him that he was perfectly healthy and that even the doctor was involved in it.

Look man, and believe me because it's true. What intention could I have in lying to you, nowadays? Even way before reaching Buenos Aires that old man was the happiest of the mortals, I say it so and I swear it for the health of my children. The old man was singing, cursing, sucking mate, eating sponge cakes, shouting through the window and he went down to the field wrapped in a flag. There wasn't, among the fans, a happier man than him. He came with us to the popular stands and he endured all the waiting of the game, which was longer than fucking hell and then he endured the game. He was unripe, it's true, and there were moments in which it looked like you puncture him with a pin and he would blow up, because I was checking him at any moment. And after the Aldo's goal, I searched for him, I searched for him, because the mess and the avalanche was such when Aldo sent the ball to the net that I didn't even know where did we ended among the avalanche and the embraces and the faints and all that stuff. But suddenly I looked to where the old man was and I saw him embracing a giant in muscle shirt almost climbed over the giant, crying. And then I said to myself: if that old man didn't die here, he doesn't die anymore. He's immortal. And then I didn't even remembered the old man, because what we worried, the anxiety we had, the tons of elephant shit coming out of our asses, I can't even tell it, man. I can't even tell it, man, because we were praying, we were turning our backs, there were people who were sitting among all this fuss because they didn't even want to see. Because they were loading shoots on us, the second half was something that they always had the ball and, do you know what was the awful, the terrible thing? That if they tied us they were going to win, man, because that's the sure thing! These motherfuckers were going to win! If they tied us, we would go to extra time and there they would tear our asses up because they were keeping it together more than us and those assholes were coming like on a raid! What a way of feeling like shit! I say that on that day, my God, I don't know what had the skinny Menutti who blocked anything, he blocked anything, you just can't believe the shoots he blocked that day that skinny weak boy who looked like he was going to shatter on every cross. He blocked a downward header to Silva that we all saw it inside, man, it was like for going in procession and kiss his ass to that skinny. What a ball he blocked to Silva! We all felt like having a heart attack, five minutes left and if they tied us, I repeat, we would get raped on extra time. I remember that I look back and I see the old man, white, pale, with the eyes shaken, poor, but alive.

And now, I say, I say and I would like to have an answer from all those people who now say that what we did with the old Casale that day was abominable. I would like that any of those sons of fucking bitches answer me if any of them saw the old Casale the way I saw him when the referee blew the whistle and finished the game, man. That anybody tell me if, by fucking chance, saw the old Casal the way I saw him when the referee blew the whistle and finished the game and the field was a hell that couldn't be described in words. I'd say that I would like to have someone telling me if somebody saw him like I did. The face of happiness of that old man, the madness of joy in the face of that old man! Somebody tell me if they saw him crying embracing everybody the way I saw him crying that old man, that I can assure you that that day was for that old man the happiest day of his life, but by very very far the happiest day of his life, because I swear that the joy he had that old man was something amazing! And when I saw him falling to the ground like struck by a lightning, because the poor old man passed away, we all thought a bit; "So what!" What else did that man want but to die this way! This is the way to die for a canalla! Was he going to stay alive? For what? For living two or three rough years more, the way he was living, inside a closet, being trashed by his wife and the whole family? Better to die this way, man! He died jumping, happy, embracing the boys, in the open air, with the joy of tearing up the asses of the lepra for the rest of the centuries! That's the way he had to die, and I even envy it, man, I swear, I envy him! Because if one could choose the way of dying, I choose this way, man! I choose this way!
