Absolute
The rounded back of Ayu-Dag pierces the sky. (1)
In absolute, absolute silence
In the old tree has found a shelter
The Bearded and mustachioed "Absolute".(2)
In the old tree has found a shelter
The Bearded and mustachioed "Absolute".
At Artek Camp, everything's in amazing order
The quiet hours are kept absolutely
In this hour he descends from the mountain,
But noone can see him until then
In this hour he descends from the mountain,
But noone can see him until then
Silently he walks up to the gate
And tiptoes into the Camp.
Then he looks at his pocket watch,
And hums a song into his mustache.
Then he looks at his pocket watch,
And hums a song into his mustache.
Only the songs of the Absolute can't be heard
If there isn't absolute silence
And as long as you don't lie in bed
the Absolute can absolutely not be heard
And as long as you don't lie in bed
the Absolute can absolutely not be heard

who play stringed instruments and pipes. (Genesis 4:21)

The history of this song and the "Absolute" (the old man) has been basis for numerous legends told in "Artek" ( the biggest Russian Youth camp of the Young Pioneers by the Black Sea Coast). But the real story goes like this, as told by the author of music Vladimir Boganov. In 1975, he was sent on a business trip to Artek to replace the young correspondents (Junkors), since he was a journalist and worked in the newspaper "Pionerskaya Pravda". There he met with the poet Vladimir Orlov from Simferopol, who suggested writing a new song about Artek. Boganov thought it'd be very difficult to come up with a new song, since there were already so many "Artek" songs. But Vladimir Orlov was a great dreamer and suggested to use the play on the word "absolute", which at that time in "Artek" carried the meaning of "a quiet hour". The next day he pinned down the words of the future song, in which the old man "Absolute" appeared, and Vladimir Boganov quickly wrote a melody. The song was presented to the attendees at one of their creative meetings. It caught on very well, and they had to sing it several times for an encore. So the long artek saga of "the Absolute" began. In the same Junkorov shift one boy from Latvia - Egils Vitols painted "Absolute" and presented his drawing to the authors of the song.
