"Schall und Rauch" is a German idiom. "Es ist alles nur Schall und Rauch" means "It's all just hollow words". Literally the words mean "Sound and Smoke", however you can't translate it to "Sound and Smoke" because such an idiom does not exist in English and it will not be understood. In English, the corresponding idiom is "Smoke and Mirrors".

Are you sure that "Schall und Rauch" means "Smoke and Mirrors"? I think it means "Sound and Smoke"
