Question: Why some thankings are made by anonymous guests while other are made by members? Who could be a anonymous guest in a eponymous forum?

You don't have to be logged in to view lyrics and their translations, or to thank the translator.

I think this feature should be disabled , cuz it opens the door to fake thanks....I mean for example someone can log out and thank himself using guest thanks feature , or connecting with different IP's to thank himself many times.....this feature should be updated , I'm with member thanks cuz you feel that you helped someone , when you open the profile and see that he/she is interested in the language , so that means you help him/her to learn , unlike guest thanks that no one knows if he/she is really interested or not :)

I think one would have to lead a very sad existence to make fake "thanks" for him-/herself on LT! :D I don't know if it exists, but I hope the members here have more self-respect than that. And if they don't, so what? If it makes their lives more meaningful, then so be it. It's not a competition who collects the most "thanks". I agree that it's nice to get thanks, because it means that someone found your translation good and helpful, but I don't agree that a guest's "thanks" are worth any less than a member's. And if someone searches for a translation of some lyrics and finds them here on LT, then I don't think he or she should have to become a member to be able to thank the translator.

Requests can only be opened by registered members. 'Thanks' can be given by anyone who access the website, registered or not. Maybe the person who thanked you didn't want to create a new account ;)

It also works like this for pretty much every other function of the website - only registered members can add new artists/lyrics/translations/threads/etc.

The thanks feature was added to discourage fake ratings (i.e. ratings given to say thanks without actually knowing both of the languages in question).

There certainly are some bots abusing the thanks system (I'm getting about 1 thanks per day on https://lyricstranslate.com/en/super-mario-odyssey-ost-jump-super-star-l...). But it doesn't do any harm, so I see no reason to disable it.

but how can I know if he thank me cuz he learnt new words from the translation or just a visitor who don't know where to click and did it by mistake :D I understand there is a need for privacy for some people ...but it's my way to self-evaluate my work , I can't base on anon guests to say that I did a good job ... am I the only one who feel this hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well, you wouldn't know it either if the thanker would need to log in to thank you and therefore wouldn't thank you at all.
Comments beneath translations are something I get pretty rarely anyway, and adding the thanks feature hasn't made any difference that I would have noticed.

The number of thanks isn't that important, I believe, but the number of reads is. I would make the number visible to all visitors and users. It reveals how interesting translations really are. Now I can enjoy my number only on my own. :)

I wouldn't mind the read numbers being visible, but how would that show how interesting something is?
Just because no one knows it doesn't mean it's bad - just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good. So it would only reveal the popularity, and even that not necessarily exactly.

But there is an effort behind it and i think it should be appreciated...if a good translation didn't know the expected success (watched xxxx times , being on top of search results whenever s.o looks for the song) , then how the translator will be motivated to do another translation , well , hobby ...yes , but sometimes , we need some kind of motivation to keep going , am I wrong hhhhhhhhhhh

At least that could keep the general picture balanced. The number of reads - the number of thanks - the ratings. Anyway, let readers decide which translation is good, which is not. Many men, many minds. The truth is beyond there.

Hansi has thanked you for your song. It is not like that it's thanked just because it's been edited. Probably he had noticed a mistake and wanted to edit it.

While I do respect everyone's right of their own opinions and while I wish LT to remain a friendly and open online community I also wish my life would be so easy and carefree that nitpicking the "thanks" feature and dissecting what each "thanks" meant to each specific person giving them, at any given time, would be my biggest concern and that I would have oceans of time to discuss it... *shaking my head*

And how should I ever knew if you wouldn't have written it down for me?, and that is one thing that should be changed or defined in the rules

The user names of logged-in thankers should be shown when you click on the "thanked x times" beneath the lyrics/translation. Which entry are you talking about?

Цитата:

then erase them all from the beggining in the rules

The website rules and FAQ don't mention the feature of thanking at all, so what are you referring to?

For example you have chosen the language of translation Hebrew, but in fact it's into Greek, then a mod may correct it.

I'm just getting that you want changes that you don't clarify. Can you write some more than just one sentence and trying to get more clear? I guess everybody wants only to understand and help you to feel okay again. Right now you seem to be in an uproar and everybody feels bad about it.

Why should we remove the thanking system? People might not want to register in the website but they want to engage in our activities, so what's the harm in Guests thanking?

No one is allowed to edit other people's translations unless it's for something minor, as taddy said: wrong language, wrong or non-existing source (people usually put 'Myself' in 'translation source'), etc. There are also users that aren't any longer around, so their content, if there's something wrong in it, goes edited. That's why there are like thousands of Mod comments around the website each day.

If you translate into/from languages others don't generally know you will see little to no votes/ratings. So 'Thanks' are the only recognition besides a view count that there is any interest or measurable quality to your work. I have been told that many people visiting 'shy away' if they have to register to vote. Thanks, give them a sense of non-long-term commitment while expressing their brief appreciation.
Keep in mind the real goal should be to provide a lasting and accurate legacy that outlives an individual's name or pride. Many cultures are not openly expressive or computer savvy. Paint a picture that you are proud of. Then in the end your self realization will be always present. Awaiting recognition often leads to disappointment and 'sour grapes'. Your cause is your own, with or without thanks (or votes). ;)
