When children are away
One bottle, second bottle, and a third one follows, dammit...
The house is completely empty at night and lumber gets covered with dust
We lurch back at dawn after a lap
I don’t think we’ll make it up the stairs on foot
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
The route is quite well known – from one bar to another
You get to know some folks and we’re a bit stuffed-up1
If you know what I mean. And early in the morning
With an empty gaze I knock back the last glass of flat drink, heh
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
Some more days and nights and everything will be back to normal
We’ll be organized and serious, combed and watchful
Yet still today and tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the day after...
Let us, sweet night, live life to the full
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
Yes, all our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty
All our charges have gone on holiday
When children are away from home, we are naughty

Thanks for your comment. Well, I'm not sure that "charges" doesn't make sense in this context because I've seen it many times in this particular meaning. Also a native speaker of English who used to correct my translations into English, this time had no objections, although she's seen this translation (I can see it by her "thanks"). Frankly speaking, I see the expression you suggest a bit too "heavy", of a too high register in the context of this song. On the other hand, I agree that the word "charges" may sound a bit weird and bring negative connotations, so maybe I should just change it into "kids"? Not a literal translation, but might sound not so awkward.

I translated this song some time ago for a friend but I have never published it anywhere so far. If you think corrections are needed, just go ahead and let me know. Thanks!
