------Technically, yes, 'character' is the correct translation for carácter, but per your suggestion, I do think personality fits in better so I changed it.

--------An imperfect verb combines the past tense and an ongoing or repeated behaviour. So, she can either be "selling" or "sold" her talents. I translated it the way I did because they go from place to place and WHEN they were in Rio, he "played" the guitar and she "sold" her silohuette.
As for her being a prostitute, throughout the song she is referred to as a stripper. A stripper is not always a prostitute. A stripper sells the illusion of sex, while a prostitute sells nothing but sex(no illusions there). Because she was in a drug-induced state, she may have decided to sell her silhouette by stripping on the dance floor or by prostituting herself, it's hard for me to tell for sure.

I appreciate your considering my suggestions.
I don't know why I said that about 'being a prostitute'. True enough, it is not in the lyrics. My mistake.
In regards to the imperfect, I mentioned it because, so many times, is misinterpreted. Reading the original, in Spanish, I think in English, "In Rio, I was doing this, and she was doing that...", ayou tell me that is perfectly accurate to say "I did this, and she did that...", I don't know. Maybe you are right.
In one thing I don't agree, is "la propina". The original says that he used it to pay for the coffee: "...con la misma (propina) que...la invitaría a n café" .... "al rato" (soon after).
Well, is good to discuss these disagreements.One thing is for sure, good translation!

thank you very much for explaining the 3rd stanza to me again about the propina, I got it completely wrong (que torpe de mi parte) :) & I get what you mean now. I have changed it.
As to the imperfect in the verse about Rio, I didn't say that the way I wrote it is "perfectly accurate", I was just saying that's how I interpreted it according to my understanding as to what the imperfect means.
I'm going to research this some more when I have time and see what I find, I may be misunderstanding it, and yes, it is good to have respectful discussions on disagreements.

A question: Do you see any difference between "How can I forget about Marta" and "How can I forget Marta"?
