To the Sea

I don’t know where my head is
I can’t cope anymore ¹
My eyes have been open too long;
not enough sleep, too much coffee.
I’m not finding myself anymore ²
in my little chaos
‘ Run like a machine ³
putting fires out everywhere ⁴

If everything gets too much,
take me there
Turn my weary sails into the wind
Fill my breath, soften my heart, ⁵
calm me down, take me to the sea

I cannot sleep again
I cannot stop thinking ⁶
my thoughts are in overdrive,
there’s no way out for them ⁷
and today when I woke up,
had the sun in my face
and it drew and drew the chaos out
and released me from duty

If everything gets too much,
take me there
Turn my weary sails into the wind
Fill my breath, cushion my heart
calm me down, take me to the sea

With every step out of here,
a part comes back to me
and with every crystal of salt that falls,⁸
a heavy burden is lifted from me ⁹

If everything gets too much,
take me there
Turn my weary sails into the wind
Fill my breath, cushion my heart
calm me down,
take me to the sea.

Great translation! Nice song to help me learn German.
I think the last verse should be:
Mit jedem Schritt hier raus komm ich bestimmt zurueck zu mir
(With every step I come out of here determined to get back to me)
And I think "und mit jedem Salzkristall der faellt" means:
and each contact with the sea salt mist lifts a large burden from my heart

Thanks Jimrobbins01,
These are the official lyrics, "bestimmt" isn't part of this song. As to the salt crystals - that's a good thought and I've incorporated it into the footnotes.

Thanks for your comments!!

And...I went ahead and used "burden" too.

If anyone else has any ideas about: "und mit jedem Salzkristall der faellt," I'd be happy to hear from you, that's a part of the song, which I had difficulty understanding what was meant.
