Satanic Songs

That's right; I just went there. But don't worry! There's a lot more to Satanic music than black metal and death growls.

In this collection, I've included songs from many different genres other than black metal. The main criterion for inclusion is that they portray Satan or a figure commonly associated with Satan (e.g. Lucifer, the Devil) in a positive, if not reverential, light.

I wanted to make such a collection myself, but you beat me to it Teeth smile

But I guess my list would be too long anyway, gonna do some sub-categories instead.

tdwarms    Segunda-feira, 22/01/2018 - 22:51

You should definitely go ahead and make a collection or two anyways. I'd love to see what songs you add!

petit élève    Segunda-feira, 22/01/2018 - 22:55

What about this classic ? That might motivate me to try an English translation.

tdwarms    Segunda-feira, 22/01/2018 - 22:57

Oh yes! The only other version of Baudelaire's Litanies that I knew of is a bit.. odd.

This one is much more to my tastes. Regular smile

petit élève    Segunda-feira, 22/01/2018 - 23:29

Here you go then. Don't sing that aloud, one never knows...

tdwarms    Terça-feira, 23/01/2018 - 20:50

Great stuff! I'm going to enjoy listening through your choices! Teeth smile

Loot    Quinta-feira, 25/01/2018 - 16:08

I definitely did not see this coming! Omg smile
I'm glad you got King Dude on the list! Although I can't think of any other titles off the top of my head and you picked the most obvious example, I'm sure he has more songs that could be fitting.
Ghost are already on the list, but I would say their "He Is" ( would fit as well.

Those "Gregorian"s can't really be Gregorian monks for real, right?

Sciera    Quinta-feira, 25/01/2018 - 17:22

Well, I'll certainly add that song to the collection I made, just didn't get to it yet.

Excellent suggestion, Loot. Regular smile

Hey, may I suggest you a song to add? I think "Lucifer" by German band Blutengel can relate to this collection. It's not black metal, I think it's more electro-industrial or something like that... Thanks for the collection btw (Black Sabbath rules!!) Regular smile

tdwarms    Sexta-feira, 26/01/2018 - 23:31

Thanks for the great suggestion! I've just added it. Regular smile

Hello! I think the homonym track of the Sabbs first album would be more representative.
Anyway, many tracks worth getting into the list, and don' t forget that if they weren't then things would be very much differently in music. Wink smile Tongue smile

tdwarms    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 02:40

By homonym track do you mean eponymous?

I understand that there is a degree of personal preference involved in the collection feature. In other words, this is my collection of Satanic songs, not the collection-to-end-all-collections. If you feel that certain songs would do well in a collection, you are very welcome to create your own. Other users, such as @Sciera, have created excellent collections including songs they enjoy and feel fit their chosen themes, such as the one entitled Devotional Satanism. Regular smile

I am also unaware of having done anything to suggest that I didn't appreciate, or have somehow overlooked, the influence Satanic music has had on Western music more generally...

Sciera    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 10:45

I see it that way, too. The feature collections was only recently added, so there is no real consensus yet how to make a "proper" collection.
But if I were to make a full list of every song that might fit this collection that would be the work of a lifetime.
Currently I only add songs to my collections that I have written translations of.

Not that I would take offense at suggestions, though!

makis17    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 03:12

I wrote it correctly, homonym' the same name... I mean the song "Black Sabbath", from the first album "Black Sabbath", of Black Sabbath band.
Anyway, thank you for the information. Regular smile

tdwarms    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 03:17

Whoops, did you read the definition I linked to? Regular smile

"Homonym: Each of two or more words having the same spelling or pronunciation but different meanings and origins."

And example in English would be the words "bark" (the sound a dog makes) and "bark" (the skin of a tree).

And you're welcome. Regular smile

Sciera    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 10:45

"Bark" is a good example, I even translated a text here once in which it most likely meant "boat" Teeth smile

makis17    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 11:43

In Greek it called "Ομόηχο" (Omoiho) that sounds the same but having different meanings.
"Ομώνυμο" (Omonymo) we call it having the same name and I supposed that it is the homonym.
You confused me!...
Angry smile Tongue smile

tdwarms    Sábado, 27/01/2018 - 04:01

It's okay. Regular smile I get confused on "homonym" and "homophone." Those Greek words. Wink smile

You're right my friend, the correct word is"eponymous".
Unfortunately (for me), right now read the link and understand the meaning in English. I have only one "complaint": excuses because in Greek the same word "heponymous" (επώνυμο-eponymo) indicating the surname or someone's reputation (figuratively) and is rarely used in this case, the word "homonymous" (ομώνυμο) is the most common.
Of course, I mistook little (or a lot more) then haha... Teeth smile
