Thank you so much! I have been searching for that live Cairo performance (after seeing it on ART during Ramadan a couple of years ago). I love it!

You can edit your entry and add this video instead of Rida's

I am horrified to see that the copyright owners have removed the lyrics. How is that possible? Is that even legal? I didn’t copy them from a website; I listened to the song over and over and wrote down what I heard. I did it because I love the song. So why can’t I share it here?

That is the law. Money rules over art. A copyright owner has the right to ask for money for any reproduction, or demand the reproduction to be deleted. It also extends to derived works, so even a translation is illegal as long as the owner of the original copyright does not allow it.

How sad. I would have thought Marwan Khoury had more artistic integrity than that, but oh well...

Maybe the artist is not to blame. It might be a general policy of his publisher.
I have no ideas if that's the case here, but many publishers demand total control of the copyright when signing a contract with an artist. In that case the artist has no more say in who is allowed to publish his works. It would be noble to tell such publishers to go to hell, but I suppose artists have to eat too.

I hope you are right. While I would never dream of performing or publishing someone else’s song commercially without permission, trying to limit access to information just seems really perverse. Would they prefer that we all erased the song from our memories and never sang or listened to it again? But I get it, and I’ll stop ranting now.
