Dan Seals - One Friend

One Friend

I always thought you were the best
I guess I always will
I always felt that we were blessed
And I feel that way still
Sometimes we took the hard road
But we always saw it through

If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you

Sometimes the world was on our side
Sometimes it wasn't fair
Sometimes it gave a helping hand
Sometimes we didn't care

'Cause when we were together
It made the dream come true

If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you

Someone who understands me
And knows me inside out
And helps keep me together
And believes without a doubt,
That I could move a mountain
Someone to tell it to

If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you

'Cause when we were together
It made the dream come true

If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you

Someone who understands me
And knows me inside out
Helps keep me together
And believes without a doubt,
That I could move a mountain
Someone to tell it to

If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you

As the "democratic" character of the English language may sometimes make it impossible to guess to whom a song might be addressed and, in consequence, to guess the sex of the addressee (which is crucial to a correct translations in most of languages), I'm enclosing a link which suggests that the addressee is most probably a female.

I'm not sure if this link would be visible to people who are not FB users, so I will quote the relevant part below:

"Dan Seals was personally very proud of “One Friend.” He felt that its success was due in part to the song being issued during the Christmas season when people seem to be more inclined to search for the things that matter most in life, and “One Friend” had meaningful, thought-provoking lyrics which worked well during this sensitive time of the year. As the years passed, the song came to be played or performed often at weddings. Before his 2009 death from cancer at the age of 61, Seals often expressed his satisfaction and contentment about being responsible for a song that couples wanted to use on such a special day, its lyrics being what they most wanted to say to each other".
