A Good Road

Give me your shoulder ¹
and hold me close to you
You don’t need to say anything,
don’t let me go
I just want to forget
everything that happens
and take refuge at your place;
I’m afraid to lose myself

Let time stand still for just a bit
and let’s keep walking this road together

Hold me close to you
Just simply be there
when life hurts
Will you stick up for me? ²
It will go on again
even if it seems futile
So many times it’s helped
when we cried together

I don’t want your pity
nor a word of truth
just a sense of home
at every new place
to block it all out,
everything around us
if the strength fails
to get on my feet again

Let time stand still for just a bit
And let’s always keep walking
this road together

Hold me close to you
Just simply be there
when life hurts
Will you stick up for me?
It will go on again
even if it seems futile
So many times it’s helped
when we cried together

Let time stand still for just a bit
And let’s keep walking this road together

Hold me close to you,
just simply be there
when life hurts
Will you stick up for me?
It will go on again
even if it seems futile
So many times it’s helped
when we cried together

Hold me close to you;
just simply be there
when life hurts
you're sticking up for me.

¹ Line 1 and 2 were switched in English.

² Straight translation: Bist du für mich stark = are you strong for me. I was able to talk with a real German about this, he said that it means "to stand up for someone," which falls into the category of "defend." To stick up for someone means "to defend" or "to support" them.

The last version seems A-okay to me, as far as I can tell with my limited German

- "bist du für mich stark?" -> I think the idea is more like "will you lend me your strength?"

...I thought the original was "bist du fuer mich da?"

Hi Raygie - welcome to Lyricstranslate. Regular smile

These are the official lyrics, but because of you, I took another look at the text and was able to improve upon what I already had! Thank you!!

Wink smile Thx! I just happen to love the meaning and the feeling of "bist du fuer mich da"....
I'm a native Chinese, a new learner of German, and a fan of Unheilig and Silbermond...Your translations are so great! It's almost impossible to find a translation of German pop music in Chinese...the English version is the best choice for me. :p

Hi kuroi_neko,

Thanks for the input, I've incorporated some of your suggestions into the translation!

I think a more meaningful English translation of the line "Wenn das Leben weh tut" would be "When living hurts." This packs a stronger emotional punch and seems a little closer to the original meaning in German.

Hi Ledocmd -
Thanks for your comment. I will change it to "When life hurts." Anything else is compromising the original text.
