Ergullu Estremeñu

Un sintil m'envadi adrentu
de lo más jondu de mi alma,
un sintil de rabia y llantu,
y d'agini y de nostalgia,
de vel jombris nesta tierra
qu'arrenuncian de su raza.

Qu'entapujan sus parabras,
que falsefican su palra,
qu'escuendin d'aöindi vienin
y aondi van cola su casta;

y cuandu palran de su jenti
sientin velgoña de su jabla.

Peru comu iju el maestru,
embajaol d'esta tierra,
yo igu jierru, jumu y jacha,
y tamién jigu y jiguera.

Extremaduran Pride

A feeling invades inside
in the deepest part of my soul
a feeling of anger and tears
of agony and nostalgia
at the sight of men from this land
as they renounce their race.

Who push their words
and falsify their way of speaking
who hide where they come from
and where they stand in the caste;

and when they talk of their people
they feel embarrassed over it.

But as a son, as a teacher
an ambassador of this land
I say: "iron, smoke and ax"1
and "fig and fig tree".1

  • 1. a. b. refers to the saying "quien no diga "jacha","jigo","jiguera" no es de mi tierra" (english: if you don't say "jacha", "jigo" and "jiguera" isn't from my land) where the 'h' is strongly pronounced as 'j'. The words mean "jacha" (Ax), "jigo" (Fig) and "jiguera" (Fig tree) in English.
