Thank you so much for this translation! And special thanks for your notes (:
I knew the outcome would be somewhat similar (to the original text), and actually intended on reading them to compare the texts phonetically ^^
Thanks again,

The difference between Ukrainian and Russian languages is obvious, but not in writing - much more in pronunciation. Lexicon is similar, but Russian was influenced more by fin-ugric languages, Ukrainian I'd say more by turkic, germanic and western-slavic languages. In the whole, situation between languages is similar to Spanish and Portuguese pair.
The main differences:
- Ukrainian is more phonetical than Russian (no reduction of vowels in Ukrainian);
- Ukrainian words are shorter as a rule, so Ukrainian text is almost always shorter than Russian;
- Ukrainian has more archaic lexics, while Russian can be considered as the most transformed language among the other slavic languages;
- Ukrainian has a vocative case, but there's no such case in Russian;
- Ukrainian grammar is more simple, and keeps a letter which is archaic in modern Russian: i. Also Ukrainian has some unique letters: ї, є, ґ. Ukrainian doesn't have the letters ы, ё, ъ, э.
- hissing consonants in Ukrainian are never softened;
- The letters which are similar in pronounce:
Ukrainian - Russian
и - ы
і - и
е - э
є - е
ї - йи
г - х
х - х or г
ґ - г
щ - шч
1. | Хай Ісус, Мале Дитя, (Khay Isus, male dytya,) |
2. | Вставайте, вставайте, браття мої милі. |
3. | Дзінь–дзілінь |
