Rolandslied

Sie haben zwei oder drei Tage in Roncevalles gekämpft;
Die Sarazenen fielen vor Rolands Schwert wie Gras vor der Sichel.

Vorwärts drängten die Sarazenen, Speere verdunkelten die Sonne;
Ein ängstlicher Gefolgsmann bat Roland, das Horn zu blasen.

Roland steckte sein Horn in den blutigen Mund blies mit voller Kraft;
Der gequälte Laut drang für drei Tage über Berge und Meere.

König Karl der Große hub an zu klagen:
"Was erwartet meinen Freund? Ich höre sein Horn rufen!"

Da war König Karl,
Und er sah seinen Freund:
Tot lag Roland, der Königsfreund,
Hielt in der Hand noch sein Schwert.

König Karl kehrte zurück in die Heimat.
Und alle waren voll Trauer.
Das Schiff war gefüllt mit Silber und Gold,
Und die Heiden lagen da, alle tot.

Thank you for appreciating my translation. :)
I do hope that it's fairly correct, though I'm not really proficient in this language. There are some points where I'm unsure. For example, could you, as a native speaker, explain me what the term blåmennan for the enemies will say (I just translated them literally as 'Blaumänner')?
:/ :)

I have a very very basic modern level of German understanding so I cant really tell.
I tried to explain the "bluemen" term in the "english translation#3", “blá” could be used to describe both blue, dark-blue, black and dark. So I guess it is quite litteral as the original authors probably lacked better names, knowledge and understanding of the geopolitical area at the time.
The only true sources I could find are in Norwegian unfortunetly: https://snl.no/bl%C3%A5mann

This word is not used at all today, and is very vague like saracen, moors and the like.

Thank you! (I should have read your informative explanations in the author's comment to your translation before, but I had overlooked them ...).
