Sobre mim

I find writing lyrics very fulfilling. All the feelings that I used to hide and suppress can now be turned into something that is called 'art'! What a great opportunity!

This serves us the songwriters not only as a means of self-expression, but also helps to connect with other human beings who happen to go through similar emotions and experiences in their lives.

I like to write translations on Lyrics Translate because there is a chance that someone will come across and read what I wrote immediately. And I am quite aware that sometimes what I wrote does not get read for months. At least it looks that way... That is fine too. But the possibility of it being read immediately right after you had finished the translation is what makes it exciting.

I was born and lived in Russia most of my young adult years. I am excited to live in the USA for the last 15+ years ...
I wanted to write poetry since I was 6. I remember my dad wrote a sweet little poem for my 5th birthday on a cute funny card. My dad had many talents and wrote some poems from time to time - among many other things that he was so good at. I suppose that it was only natural for me to write my first poem about my dad...
A couple years ago my 6 year old niece wrote her first poem about her grandfather... Wouldn't you say that the poetry "bug" is in the family? ...
What is my expertise in translating from English into Russian and from Russian into English? I hold Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature completed in Russian Federation where I also attended a class in translation of English poetry and fiction. My personal and professional life for the last 15 years evolves around speaking and writing in American English 99.99% of the time. I still have my Russian even though it is not as fluent as it used to be ... :-)
After all these years English is still the second, foreign language. Writing poetry in a foreign language is quite a challenge. What I learned in school is that when it comes to poetry, and especially songs - there cannot be an exact translation because the two different languages' expressive means are significantly different, sometimes completely different - to a paradox. In writing my lyrics translations I try to make the words "follow the melody", so that it would be easy to sing. I also try to not "overthink" the words and make the lyrics easy to understand by anyone.

Oh, and yes - please feel free to use my translations if you like them - with or without credit. The music and poetry belongs to everyone. The glory belongs to God!

And - ah - please feel very welcome to let me know if by chance you start making some money with any of these 'English Lyrics'!! I believe in you! :-)

Cheers!
