Ours (Charles Souchon) - Nina se réveille (traducere în Engleză)

traducere în Engleză

Nina awakes

Nina gets up
with her cheekbone squashed against the floor tile,
ants in her toes,
and a woodpecker in her head
Nina gets up.
Her clothes are dirty.
Nina brings up
a few regrets too.

You know my little english,But isn't it better to said
her clothes are gets dirty?or something like?

2/2 Ses habits sont salis....>Her clothes are dirty.
ses habits sont sales...>her clothes are dirty

Ah no not really - "her clothes are gets dirty" doesn't work at all.

I think you meaning that "salis" is the past tense so a more literal English would be "Her clothes are dirtied/soiled"
But in practice we would just say "dirty". Regular smile

Umm - I'm not quite sure now that you come to mention it. I guess she was waking with a banging headache. I guess a woodpecker tapping in her head is a more likely image. Can pivert also mean jackhammer or did I dream it? Regular smile

For all I know "pivert" is just a bird. You can write it "pic-vert" too (a green pick).
The metaphor is unusual but rather funny.

How odd - I don't know where I pulled that from - nothing like "marteau piqueur" is it? Regular smile

It's a fairly silly little song but it serves as an epilogue to the longer "Quand Nina est saoule" so I needed to translate it for completeness.

I quite like this guy - he seems to pick his words for their sonority rather than for any especially deep meaning, but the effect is nice. Reminds me of Serge's La Javanaise at times. Not that I'm putting him in the same league of course.

Sure, that's rather pleasant to hear. Probably a better writer than his father, but with lighter themes.

There's one really nice one I want to do but I'm not 100% sure of the French - might run it by you when it's ready if that's ok. Regular smile

"There's one really nice one I want to do but I'm not 100% sure of the French"
C'est en forgeant que l'on devient forgeron Non? Someone said me that...

Gavin    Joi, 08/03/2018 - 09:24

Yeah, it's more trusting if I'm hearing the French correctly - I've got most of it, just a few words I'm not quite sure are correct... You can't trust the transcriptions on the web - Elles sont truffées de fautes Wink smile

Now I'm wondering if I've made one... I haven't have I? Regular smile

Gavin    Joi, 08/03/2018 - 09:41

Phew - I like that expression, very...expressive Regular smile
