Поскольку, beautiful people, all you need - is love!"

Wierd Times!

That was long ago - you've probably forgotten.
When we still read books and feared the Communists.
When we didn't know words like "killer" or "toxic waste dumps".
One student was teaching his girl friend about love.

He told her this:
"I see your image in the flowers I'm sketching.
In my heart are two people: Jimmy Hendricks and you.
Never forget, I'm with you always,
No matter where you are. Like they sing:
"Beautiful people, all you need is love!"

Wierd times!

She replies:
"You are a funny guy and a hippy!
But my Mother says, you have some problems,
That in our Soviet Union, you have no future.
So, forgive me, but I must hurry off to a Commie meeting."

And he shouts back:
"One day, Soviet "Beetles" will get their freedom, and
The portraits of those ugly baldies will be torn down!
Before too long, our sun will rise!
And that commie in civvies will let a person speak out."

Wierd times!

Since then, a thousand years have passed. Times have changed.
All around us now are totally new faces and a different country, but
As I walk along Tverskaya Street, things come back to me:
Where is that student, that girl friend, and where's their love?"

Nice song, not going to lie I found it funny, but the meaning is there and oddly it is somehow still relatable now.
