Den fagraste Rosa er funni

Den fagraste Rosa er funni,
Ho upp millom Klunger er runni:
Vaar Jesus den dyraste Blomen
Rann upp av ei Ætt under Domen.

For sidan me misste den Æra
Guds Bilæt i Hjartat at bera,
Laag Verdi i Øyda og Villa,
Og Dauden oss herjade illa.

Men Herren ei Rosa let bløma
All Verdi til Sæla og Søma.
Og Angen til Himmelen stiger:
Vaar Jord til Guds Hage ho viger.

So blømer Guds Kyrkja med Æra
Og yndige Frugter kann bera,
I Kristo ho andar og liver.
Han Væta til Voksteren giver.

No skulde vel Verdi med Gleda
Til Frelsaren Lovsongar kveda.
Men Mange paa Klungrarne glosa
Og sjaa ei den himmelske Rosa.

Du Syndar! kvi vil du deg herda,
Som Klungren med Broddar deg gjerda,
Med storlaatne Tankar i Sinne
Som Tornarne strake og stinne!

Stig ned fraa den sjølvgjorde Hægdi
Og graat fyr din Frelsar i Lægdi!
So skal du hans Kjærleike kjenna:
For Rosor i Dalarne renna.

No Jesu! du stendig skal vera
Mi Rosa, mi Pryda og Æra.
Du eine mitt Hjarta skal taka.
Di Søta eg evig skal smaka!

Mi Rosa meg pryder og fagnar,
Mi Rosa meg gleder og gagnar,
Dei synduge Lyster ho driver
Og mildt under Krossen meg liver.

Lat Verdi meg truga og tvinga.
Lat Tornarne riva og stinga.
Naar Hjartat umsider vil bresta,
Eg Rosa paa Brystet vil festa.

The Fairest Rose Is Found

The fairest rose is found
Up through the thorns she is risen
Our Jesus the dearest bloom
Grown up among mere mortals

For since we lost the honour
To carry God's image in the heart
The world lay in desolation and disorder
And death harried us harshly

But the Lord made a rose bloom
For all the world to rejoice in
The scent to the heavens rises
Our earth to God's garden it hallows

So blooms God's church with honour
And the sweetest fruits can carry
In Christ she breathes and lives
And liquid to the growth he gives

Now surely the world should joyfully
Sing songs of praise for the saviour
But many stare at the thorns
And see not the heavenly rose

Thou sinner! Why make yourself hard,
Like a thorn bush yourself guard?
With prideful thoughts in mind
Just like thorns long and dense

Step down from your self-made height
And cry for your saviour down low
Then his love you shall know
And roses in the dales will grow

Now Jesus, you ever shall be
My rose, my adornment, my honour
You alone shall my heart take
Your sweetness I ever shall taste

My rose adorns and contents me
My rose gladdens and aids me
The sinful urges she drives off
And under the cross shields me

Let the world threaten and coerce me
Let the thorns tear and sting me
When the heart eventually ceases
The rose upon my chest I will fasten
