What is your view on uploading instrumental pieces? - I've seen some who have already done it, and was now wondering what do most users / admins think of it?

I mean, is this site suppose to be only about lyrics, or should we see it covering a broader aspect of music?

If you're for it, or done it before, what would be the best way of going about posting such piece?
And if any of the admins are "tapping in", maybe there should be some special option to post such upload. It could also contribute to the completeness of albums under certain artists.

I've been waiting for someone to post this! lol
But the question remains WHAT to put, in which normally would just be lyrics? ...liner notes perhaps? o.O chords maybe? =!

All in all, I'm totally for it!

I've also been thinking about posting whole sessions of like stand-up comedians, interviews of all sorts of musicians, etc. Have them transcribed and then translated into all the other different languages!?!

I like very much this idea!!! Thanx for telling it...

There could be a notice "instrumental" in the lyrics' field or a "instrumental or not" button, that (after clicking on it) will show the notice (or any other sign) in the song page of the artists. This way the song lists of the artists will be more complete.

Great Idea,

But since there is no lyrics to translate. I think users should post interpretation of the instrumental instead, in any language they like.

I'm ambivalent about this.

Of course, I endorse the idea of giving one's interpretations about artistic works, whether the music is accompanied by words or not.

But all of us are engaged in this "hobby" of making these interpretations, and on the surface, it has no rational motivations, beyond our own enjoyment of the "doing".

(About the only long-term justification for this work, is to lead us to proficiency to do some actual translation work, such as that advertized on sites such as proz.com -- otherwise, all we are doing here is a form of mental masturbation.)

But if we're going to do different types of interpretations here, we really should have the capability to separate & index them ... then we can use this website as a "cloud" portfolio of our work. I would totally be in favor of something like that.

(It's not like proz.com provides that service. But perhaps they could provide some "cross-pollenation' services?)

SilentRebel83 I was actually thinking something along the lines of what marinos25 suggested. But liner notes could be a good idea too, although maybe putting them in the 'comment' might be more suiting. I've also thought about the chords option, but this would really mean a massive change both in the site's context, and in term of implementing such new feature. Regarding other, non song lyrics, uploads - I think I've seen such things on the site already, but since they don't relate to music, I don't think I can present any valid reason to request their addition - although personally I wouldn't mind Wink smile

hariboneagle927 what do you mean by interpretations?

BuenSabor separating the two was the idea Regular smile and I get what you're saying about kind of going against the site's "main functionality", which is exactly why I asked about how much of this site is really about music, not just lyrics. marinos25 suggested a way to go about such separation which I think could work great and shouldn't take a lot of new coding (I suppose) :).

Lumekuninganna I never suggested adding interpretations Regular smile but filling the artist data is something I'm interested in. Plus, part of making this site more "social", is sharing your music - not just the type that goes with lyrics :).
I know I'd like to do it, and apparently I'm not alone ^^ Regular smile

I'm glad to see most agree on this, and a lot of mods too Regular smile
hope lt would address this issue sometime Regular smile

SilentRebel83, actually, I think I just came by an even better solution for your second idea Regular smile

How about reviving the old 'article' feature, making it a place for bigger / non-musical texts, or even making it into somewhat of a personal translator's blog?
...on with the socializing Regular smile

The admins must hate me by now, for suggesting all this hard work for them Wink smile

I just got two notifications that some spammer account (bANaUiYSlk) had posted to this thread.

This is garbage:
