Autumn Thunderstorm on the Rooftops

Autumn thunderstorm on the rooftops, snow squall loaded with anger, springtime storm in the foliage of the year, summer wind in the ripened grain.
I wouldn't have seen all that, would have been blind to all the rest,
All it would have taken was a slight breeze in your hair and I would have told myself, gee,
I certainly know the wind.

Uproar in the street, juke-box music and a song wafting in on the air from somewhere.
Rumblings in the plumbing, laughing, shouts, then suddenly silence all around.
I would never have paid any attention to all that, would have been deaf to it all,
It would have taken just a single word uttered by you and I would have told myself, gee,
I certainly have heard.

Colourful ribbons and garlands, the sun following a night of getting drunk, the glow of a neon ligh in the morning fog, a little before the city rouses itself.
I would have dwelt upon my hangover, I would have seen nothing but you,
It would have taken only closing my eyes on you and I would have told myself, gee,
I certainly have seen.

Expectation, hope and giving up, wandering and confusion,
Doubt, faith and pardon, tears of joy, drunkenness.
I wouldn't have ever known all of that, I wouldn't have experienced it,
All it would have taken was falling asleep in your arms and I would have told myself, gee,
I certainly have lived.
