C'est une vraie tordue de la musique - Not "c'est un oeuvre tordu." Piaf's choice of emphasis on the first syllable of "une" is odd in this line and seems to have led our casual translator to twist herself such that she wants to re-write Michel Emer's lyric to fit her English translation.
An actual translation, in unwashed modern usage, might go "She's a total musical freak." Or, more poetically, "She is a tortured slave to the music."
"Tordue" literally means "twisted" and in today's low register French, it is refers to someone twisted sexually, i.e., a pervert, a creep. Never a nice word, its original sense was literally someone who was twisted upon the rack, a common form of torture in renaissance and early modern times, upon which one's body would be twisted. Hence the English word "torture."
