La cigarra

Ya no me cantes cigarra,
que acabe tu sonsonete,
que tu canto aquí en el alma
como un puñal se me mete,
sabiendo que cuando cantas
pregonando vas tu muerte.

Marinero, marinero
dime si es verdad que sabes,
porque distinguir no puedo,
si en el fondo de los mares
hay otro color mas negro
que el color de mis pesares.

Haylai, hailarala, haylarala
Hay otro color mas negro
que el color de mis pesares.

Un palomito al volar
que llevaba el pecho herido,
ya casi para llorar,
me dijo muy afligido:
ya me cansó de buscar
un amor correspondido.

Bajo la sombra de un árbol
y al compás de mi guitarra
canto alegre este huapango
porque la vida se acaba
y quiero morir cantando
como muere la cigarra.

Haylai, hailarala, haylarala
Y quiero morir cantando
como muere la cigarra.

The Cicada

Versiuni: #1#2#3
You don't sing to me anymore, Cicada,
your singsong has ended,
like your song in the soul
it kills me like a dagger
knowing when you sing
you're proclaiming your death.

Sailor, sailor
tell me if you really know
because I can't tell
if at the bottom of the oceans
there is a color blacker
than the color of my sorrows.

Haylai, hailarala, haylarala
There's a blacker color
than the color of my sorrows.

A dove in flight,
that had carried the wounded chest
just about to cry,
he told me with regret:
it's already tired of searching for me
an equal love.

Below a tree's shade
at the beat of my guitar
I joyfully sing this huapango
because life is over
and I want to die singing
like how the cicada passes.

Haylai, hailarala, haylarala
and I want to die singing
like the cicada passes.

The translation of the first two lines is not quite right. In the first line the singer is not telling the cicada that he doesn't sing anymore. The sentence is an imperative; she is saying to him, "don't sing anymore." In the second sentence she is not telling him that his song has ended. The sentence is not in the present tense; it is in the subjunctive. It is saying, "let your singing end."

Here it is almost a year later and this translator too has not corrected the mistakes I pointed out.. There are many more ways in which the translation could be improved, but since the translator doesn't seem to have done any more translations, I suspect that he has stopped visiting the site. Therefore there doesn't seem to be any point in adding more corrections and suggestions.

See my comments above. There are a number of errors in the translation and also some awkward passages, eg. "it's already tired of searching for me an equal love", "like how the cicada passes" "that had carried the wounded chest"...and so on.
