Nachtgedanken
Denk ich an Deutschland in der Nacht,
Dann bin ich um den Schlaf gebracht,
Ich kann nicht mehr die Augen schließen,
Und meine heißen Thränen fließen.
Die Jahre kommen und vergehn!
Seit ich die Mutter nicht gesehn,
Zwölf Jahre sind schon hingegangen;
Wenn nicht die Mutter dorten wär’;
Das Vaterland wird nie verderben,
Jedoch die alte Frau kann sterben.
Seit ich das Land verlassen hab’,
So viele sanken dort in’s Grab,
Die ich geliebt – wenn ich sie zähle,
So will verbluten meine Seele.
Und zählen muß ich – Mit der Zahl
Schwillt immer höher meine Qual,
Mir ist als wälzten sich die Leichen
Auf meine Brust – Gottlob! sie weichen!
Gottlob! durch meine Fenster bricht
Französisch heit’res Tageslicht;
Es kommt mein Weib, schön wie der Morgen,
Und lächelt fort die deutschen Sorgen.

Night thoughts
If at night, I of Germany think
No sleep for me, awake I blink
No more am I able my eyes to close
And hot tear after hot tear from me flows
The years come and soon they go
My mother I saw only long ago
Fully twelve years, I've seen passing
Great grows my yearning and desiring
My yearning and desiring, to it I'm forsaken
The old woman, my brain away she's taken
Of that old one, I think forever
The old woman, may God preserve her!
The old woman, no one loved me better
And what I see in every letter
Is how in writing her hand trembled
How her heart, one deeply shaken resembled
Forever on my mind, my mother
Twelve years flown one after the other
Twelve years gone by have flown
Since I took her to my heart, my own
Germany will live for ever and ever
A healthier land find will you never
With its linden and its oak and beech
Will I there always and again reach
To Germany to return, little I'd lust
If to it, my mother weren't trussed
The Fatherland, unscathed it'll lie
The old lady, however, she might die
Since from that country, I parted
Many there this life have departed
Many I loved – if count them I need
Then will want my soul to bleed
And count them I must – With the figure
Agony within me grows, finds its trigger
It's as if their bodies do a waltz
Across my chest – Thank God it's false
Thank God that through my window bay
Breaks joyful French light of day;
Comes my wife, her beauty the morning equal
And smiles away German worries gleeful

:) Just couldn't find a rhyme. Thought Germany was probably just as proud of its beeches.
Just add the linden and you will get a metre:
"with its beech, its oak and linden trees"
Need "beech" on the end to rhyme with "reach". There are rhymes for "linden", of course, and probably even more for "oak", but non seem to fit.
"with its linden and its oak and beech" ?
