thanks for the help I'LL EVENTUALLY FIGURE IT OUT.
I tried to translated it so that it could be sung - Literal translations are often difficult to sing and you have to go with the idea or portray the concept in a limited number of words. Our choir , in repeating the song does it in english. People are surprized that different voices at times sing different words. It's a wonderfully complicated song. We mourn the fact that soviet agents assassinated this choir master and author in 1921.
Carol of the Bells" (also known as the "Ukrainian Bell Carol") is a choral miniature work originally composed by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych. Throughout the composition, Leontovych used a four note motif .as an ostinato which was taken from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant known in Ukrainian as "Shchedryk" [the Generous One] KILLED by the KGB for being a Ukrainian Nationalist. He lives on in his music.
Leontovich could not be killed by the KGB (the KDB in Ukrainian), since this committee was founded on March 13, 1954.

Leontovich was shot dead when he was visiting his father on January 23, 1921 by an armed robber who entered his father’s house in the guise of a member of the VChK (All-Russian Extraordinary Commission).

Here is an English language adaptation of the original text of Schedryk to be found at www.shchedryk.com or www.christmasnumber1.org.uk on Itunes spotify etc search Shchedrivka .
They must’ve changed the original lyrics after you had translated it

the song is a new years well wish, sung after Christmas - with the rebirth of the sun, life being freed from icey death, the birds were harbingers of good news in pagan times, and so she brings good news of hope, prosperity, abundance to the land lord in the beggining of the new year. and the renewal of all things. THE RENEWED SUN BLESSING PEOPLE, THE MOON THE CATTLE, AND THE RAIN THE FIELDS. All shedrivky have these themes. These are not christmas carols, never sung in church, but by girls house to house, rewarded for their efforts. The boys sang the carols proclaiming the renewal of creation with the birth of christ (sun of enlightenment). With the comming of grace in the holy spirit (melting of the ice) and the freedom from the icey death and sin - given renewal, eternal life in christ, and a renewed relationship with the creator. ( to be dark browed was a sign of beauty)
