Hello everyone,

I have some phrases that I would greatly appreciate if one of you could translate for me:

1. How would you say "to feel bad about oneself" as in "she feels really bad about herself?"
2. Is there an equivalent phrase for "to have a bad feeling about something?"
3. How do you say "which grade are you in" as in school grades (3rd, 7th, etc.)?
4. Is there an equivalent expression for "to intimidate someone?"
5. Is there a way in Farsi to say, "You're so dramatic?"
6. Is there some sort of expression like "is that anyway to treat your friend?"

Thank you in advance!

Hi!
1. Literally: hesse badi (nesbat) be khodesh dare OR hesse khobi (nesbat) be khodesh nadare
حس بدی (نسبت) به خودش داره / حس خوبی (نسبت) به خودش نداره
OR az khodesh razi nist (=(s)he is not happy with herself/himself)
از خودش راضی نیست

2. hesse khoobi be chizi nadashtan OR hesse badi (nesbat) be chizi dashtan
حس خوبی (نسبت) به چیزی نداشتن / حس بدی (نسبت) ) به چیزی داشتن

3. kelas chandomi? (=which class are u?) کلاس چندمی؟ OR کلاس چندی؟ (kelas chandi?)

4. tarsoondane kasi ترسوندن (ترساندن) کسی
FORMAL: mar'oob kardan (مرعوب کردن) / haraasaandan هراساندن

5. If by being dramatic, you mean an exaggerated way of doing things, we say "adaa dar aavordan" (ادا در آوردن), but if you mean emotional, it would be "ehsaasaati" (احساساتی). If you were to say that the behavior is too obvious and showy, you would say "taablo" (تابلو) as in:
خیلی تابلوئه! (kheili tablo'e)
خیلی تابلوبازی در میاری! (kheili tablo baazi dar miyari!)

6. "aadam baa doostesh injoori taa mikone?" آدم با دوستش اینجوری تا میکنه؟
taa kardan (تا کردن) which means to fold (literally), is an expression for treating s.o.

In Persian when having "typical you" in mind, we use آدم (adam)(=human). For example:
adam bayad havasesh be vasayelesh baashe too metro (آدم باید حواسش به وسایلش باشه تو مترو) (=you should watch over your stuff in the subway)

Anytime. ;)
Kheili adaa dar miyare خیلی ادا در میاره (=he's being so pretentious)
inghadr adaa dar nayaar اینقدر ادا درنیار (=don't be so pretentious)

"adaa dar avordan" also means to mock or imitate:
adaaye mano dar miyari? ادای منو در میاری (=are you mocking me?)

similar to this is "adaa atvaar" ادا اطوار, maybe sth like "monkeying around".

But bear in mind that these expression might not mean exactly the same thing to people from different regions of Iran.

The mean the same thing to everyone in such contexts.

Examples of adaa atvaar in a Google search (actual usage):

ادا و اطوار های عجیب حامد بهداد در جشنواره فیلم فجر
adaa atvaarhaaye ajibeh Hamed Behdad dar jashnvaareye filme fadjr (strange+silly behvavior of Hamed Behdad in Fadjr Film Festival)

ادا و اطوارهاي کودک نوعي مکانيزم دفاعي است
adaa atvaarhaaye koodak no'ee mekanism defayee ast (Silly behavior of a child is a kind of defense mechanism)

چرا مریم ادااطورا عزادار بودن در می اورد؟
cheraa maryam adaa atvaare azaadaarboodan dar miaavarad? (why is Maryam acting so silly pretending she's grieving/mourning)
