Oh, Kinabuhi!

I
Inig sidlak sa adlaw sa sayo sa kabuntagon
Masud-ong ta ang katahom 'ning kalibutan
Gidadayan sa nahigmata na kalangaman
nga nanag-awit 'ning kabukiran

II
Ug mopadulong sa pagsalop sa kahapunon
Ug sa dughan nga wala'y naglaylay
Sa kasing-kasing nga wa'y nagsapnay
Sama kanako nga sinalikway
ay magamahay

CHORUS:
Oh kinabuhi!
sama ka sa usa ka gapnod
Nga gianod-anod sa bul-og 'ning mga luha
Wa'y kinutoban*,
wa'y hunong ang iyang gidulngan*
Ayayay! Ayayay!
Nganong sakiton man?

REPEAT I & II

REPEAT CHORUS 2X

CODA:
Ayayay! Ayayay!
Nganong sakiton man?

Oh, Life!

I
When the sun rises in the early hours of morning
We behold the beauty of this world
Ushered forth by the awakening birds
that are singing high up in these mountains

II
And (the beauty) carries on into the twilight of the (late) afternoon
And to the chest/heart that has no (emotional) attachments
to the heart that has no (emotional) encumbrance
of those who are ostracized like me
would feel regret-longing

CHORUS:
Oh, Life!
You are akin to flotsam
(that is) being drifted about in (the midst of) this torrential (outpouring) of tears
There's no destination to,
There's no end to the path he (chooses to) tread
Ayayay! Ayayay!
Why make it hurt so much?

REPEAT I & II

REPEAT CHORUS 2X

CODA
Ayayay! Ayayay!
Why make it hurt so much?

Laylay and sapnay both have the meaning of "attachment". Though Laylay has a connotation of passiveness while Sapnay is something more of a burden-attachment that persistently clings or is self-inflicted.

Sinalikway - an outcast, an ostracized person or entity.

*Kinutoban translates to "Boundaries", or something that delimits, or signals the end of something. Root word: Kutob. Author chose to use the concept of paths and destination to convey the lyrics.

*Gi(pa)dulngan translates to the process of going from point A to point B. Root word: Dulong.

Those within parentheses are filler words that are not present in the original lyrics but are required to make the English translation more sensible and/or logical.
