Once More To The Bar

Back to the bar again,
With the same feeling
Because of a woman
No matter how hard I try, I never learn
That I was born unlucky
In matters of love

I can't stand the suffering
That I bear within my soul
All because of that woman*
It tears me up inside
I no longer know what I feel
Or what makes me so mad

Oh, what feelings I have
I cannot hold them back
I can only blot them out
When I start drinking.
So let them bring me more tequila
To start me singing
For that ungrateful woman**
Has made me weep

I can't stand the suffering
That I bear within my soul
All because of that woman
It tears me up inside
I no longer know what I feel
Or what makes me so mad

Oh, what feelings I have
I cannot hold them back
I can only blot them out
When I start drinking.
So let them bring me more tequila
To start me singing
For that ungrateful woman
Has made me weep
.

Thank you, Gaddesto, for your good translation.

There are a few things that I would say differenyly, for instance"
"Que me traigan más tequila', i would say "Bring me more tequila/let me have more ...". And further down you avoid "que/that" again but, your expression is your style, and I respect it.

Thank you for your work, and thank you for providing the correct lyrics, and taking care of that problem.

Hi Roster, thanks for your comment. Looking at the verse again, I think that perhaps "So let them bring me more tequila" might be a more accurate translation. What do you think? The sense of a Spanish "que" plus subjunctive can be difficult to convey into everyday English. I try to strike a balance between making an accurate translation, while at the same time getting the English text to read naturally to an English native speaker. Not always as simple as it might seem.

Yes, that's true.
If you skip "so", you will have the same number of syllables as the original. (?)

It depends really on how one reads the verse.

[ Oh, what feelings I have
I cannot hold them back
I can only blot them out
When I start drinking. ]

[ So let them bring me more tequila
To start me singing
For that ungrateful woman
Has made me weep ]

Or one could read it this way:

[ Oh, what feelings I have
I cannot hold them back
I can only blot them out ]

[ When I start drinking
Let them bring me more tequila
To start me singing
For that ungrateful woman
Has made me weep ]

"So" feels appropriate in the first version, but, I agree, not in the second...
I think I'll leave it as it is... I have put in a full stop to make it clearer.

Ok, so I looked up the lyrics translation because my husband kept pointing to me while he sang it. So now I know it is NOT a flattering song. It's referring to the woman as an ungrateful person causing the guy to drink. Am I understanding that correct?
