Cântecul străinătăţii
Rătăcesc pe căi străine,
De cătunu-mi depărtat,
Îmi trec viața în suspine,
Pâinea-n lacrimi mi-am udat.
Fie pâinea cât de rea,
Tot mai bine în ţara mea!
Ah! În ţara mea frumoasă
Am lăsat tată iubit,
Am lăsat maică duioasă,
Ce de plânsuri a albit.
Vezi o culme muntenească
Ş-o căsuță dedesubt?
Este casa părințească,
Unde laptele am l-supt.
Cu străini am stat la masă,
Şi cu ei m-am ospătat;
Dar gândind la mine acasă,
Lacrimi râuri am vărsat.
Cine ţara îşi iubește,
Nu dă lumea pentru ea;
Oh! Atunci inima-mi crește.
Când gândesc a o vedea!
Fericiți câți sunt aproape
De căminul părințesc!
D-oi muri, voi să mă-ngroape
În pământul românesc.
Fie piatra cât de grea,
Tot mai bine în ţara mea!
