It’s Stars Falling Down From The Sky

It’s stars falling down from the sky

"fag ends from the upper floor" looks like a derogative way of speaking of an homosexual committing suicide Teeth smile
"dogends fall/rain/come down" would be less ambiguous, I think.
I might be overcautious though. I wonder what [@Gavin] would make of that.

Gavin    Четвртак, 17/05/2018 - 15:42

Well that's probably how an American would hear it. My English ear has no problem with it all but dog-ends might be more cross-culturally understood. Regular smile

Oh, "fag ends" are of a broader sense than I've suspected, thanks to those homophobic skunks...
But in Russian "Окурки" could mean more than mere cigarette stubs. Something useless could also be meant by this word. So the translation should imply this broad sense. I could hardly believe that dog-ends would cope with this. Sad smile

Gavin    Четвртак, 17/05/2018 - 15:26

Not sure this dual meaning is possible in a single term. Maybe something like "worthless cigarette butts"?

Brat    Четвртак, 17/05/2018 - 15:39

Well, cigarette butts are surely worthless by default, if thrown from the upper floors. Regular smile
I'll think about dog-ends, hoping that there'll be nobody who may think about somebody getting rid of annoying dogs throwing them right from the upper floors. Teeth smile

Gavin    Четвртак, 17/05/2018 - 15:42

Sure, they're pretty useless things I reckon. I think you're pretty safe from being misunderstood with dog-ends. Regular smile

Brat    Четвртак, 17/05/2018 - 17:04

After all, I lean towards "stubs". Regular smile

Gavin    Четвртак, 17/05/2018 - 20:31

I don't really recognise 'stub' by itself as meaning 'cigarette stub'. Maybe others do...

We call it "cigarettes butts" in Australia. I've never heard " fag ends' used here. We do use the word "fag'' for cigarettes sometime.

"Butts" maybe? Regular smile But again, there's an unnecessary allusion to buttocks... Sad smile

In states they are also called ‘buds’ - another word with too many meanings LOL
