Я памятник себе воздвиг нерукотворный,
К нему не зарастёт народная тропа,
Вознёсся выше он главою непокорной
Александрийского столпа.
 
Нет, весь я не умру — душа в заветной лире
Мой прах переживёт и тленья убежит —
И славен буду я, доколь в подлунном мире
Жив будет хоть один пиит.
 
Слух обо мне пройдет по всей Руси великой,
И назовёт меня всяк сущий в ней язык,
И гордый внук славян, и финн, и ныне дикой
Тунгус, и друг степей калмык.

I’ve built myself a monument, a one not man-made
And people’s path will never grass to it
It soared up higher with its head rebellious

No, never will I die in full - the soul in sacred
Lyre will ashes mine survive and decay will escape
And famous will I be until below the moon yet
There lives at least one poet left.
 
A word ‘bout me will spread all over great Rus’
And any tongue will voice my name in it
A proud Slavic son, a Finn, a yet so wild Tungus
And steppe wise old Kalmyk
 
And long on after that will I be dear to people
For only kindly feelings did my lyre bring on
For in these cruel times I praised and sang of Freedom
And called for mercy to the fallen

I'm sorry but I haven't read your translation. I didn't get farther than the title. Seriously, what does it mean if translated into Russian? I'll translate. No man-made monument I wrought in my name. Why are you shouting on my page and insult me? Did I call you here? You asked for my opinion about your translation and said that was a challenge on your part. OK, I'll tip you off. Not a man-made monument did I make in my name (wrought is a good find but the word order you've chosen calls for inversion.) You don't know the difference between "no" and "not". Ask your wife. I'm not here to teach grammar. My academic year starts in a fortnight. Give me leave awhile unless you have questions or suggestions to my translation. Sorry. Over and out.

Pushkin is amazing! that is a wonderful poetry. Especially that line, 'Ashes will survive, and decay will escape'! Just wow! Translation is exact, and i loved it. Cheers.

Pushkin is good, but the singer is a disaster, IMO. Pushkin didn't deserve such a cruel treatment.

Yep, Anatoli, you and I have so many translations in a line, next to each other. And we have advised, suggested and you have corrected so many of my typos. And we have thanked each other. But never have we looked on it as a challenge or rivalry. Just another point of view, a different perception of poetry. But in someone's eye, we're a pair of roaches. I've never liked them anyway. :)

Nadia, let us look at the intent - challenge isn't negative in this context - he just tried to lighten up the mood. Like you said, we frequently translate in parallel and use good suggestions from others (well, I do it when I can. Lol)
And stars, thanks, likes are very nice, but we know if our own translations or poems are any good.
