The Vagabond
My mother left me too early
I am an orphan
I am tattered and abraded
Like old houses are
My father took a piece of rope
And died on an apple tree
I don't know my brother
An evil dream plagues me
I have been mistreated and beaten
Like a dog
Named only the vagabond
My tongue hanging from my mouth
I go from house to house
Winter snows upon my hair
Summer scorches me
As long as blood, with wild force
Circles through these veins
I'll cling tight to the life
That promises me no luck
I have been mistreated and beaten
Like a dog
Named only the vagabond
And though some day to me might open
The door to Paradise
I'll slam it shut again
And live as I did before
I have been mistreated and beaten
Like a dog
Named only the vagabond

О преводиоцу
The chorus could have been translated in other ways. German sentences with "man" can be translated into "one" in English, so it could have easily been "one can call me only the vagabond". On the other hand, a less direct translation could be "my name is just (the) vagabond" (same as the first sentence could be "people have mistreated and beaten me like a dog"), but I think I've used an acceptable middle ground - please comment if you think this or something else can be done better, I do read those comments and head them if they make sense. :)
