In search for a meaning to life

We are boundlessly tired
of our numerous friends.
We don't like the view from the window
and we're jaded sick of news.
We are constantly being pestered by something
so that melancholy doesn't gnaw at us.
We don't strike lazy poses,
we search for a meaning to life.

We seek meaning in bold marches
We seek meaning in sweet dreams,
on the sheet left blank,
in the words unspoken,
In the waste recycled,
in an empty bottle, in nasty drugs,
in big and small incomes,
in days of old, in a hole in a pocket.

We seek meaning in silence
an in nasty eerie noise,
in bleak and dreary destitution,
in great palaces, in big money.
We seek meaning in bridles,
in rigid harnesses, in thick reins,
in all unacted deeds,
in sucker punches, in whacks in the face

We would like so much our existence
would not depend on a hard life
and to open our hearts1, and that's why
we search for a meaning to life.

На не исписанной бумаге - “исписан” means that someone already wrote something on it. ‘Unwritten sheet”, on the other hand, is blank sheet of paper.
‘минувший’ - here is ‘past’, прошедший; ‘последний день’ would be the last day
in rotten socks = в гнилых носках ??? Гнилой (подлый) толчёк would be ‘mean push’ or something like this
‘Сердце жжёт (болит)’ we say when the person has some strong feelings, usually unpleasant or painful, for something or someone; to care about something; to be passionate. Maybe ‘incite’ will work here? Idk

Not incomplete, rather complete, like a manuscript. To me, they want to say that they don’t want to seek meaning in someone else’s work, does it make sense?
Mean - lacking dignity or honor. Push - a physical force steadily applied in a direction away from the body exerting it

something constantly is eating us from inside- гложет( rather then "mesmerized)

I think, Pierre, you're right. "The meaning to life" gets the message across much better. I might have said "In Search of the Meaning to Life" to make it shorter. I'd like to give my few suggestions.
1. I'd have used a different pattern here:
On the writing paper left blank
In the words unspoken
In the waste recycled

2. About the infamous Russian "тоска, которая гложет"
We're always being festered (pestered) by something (Present Continuous is a must here)

All the rest seems quite nice to me and pretty poetic. Good job, Pierre :)

A sucker punch, maybe? Or a wicked blow...

Well, well, well, Pierre. Somebody has called Russian poetry psychedelic. Let's see what we can deduce from that "гнилой толчок" 1. Толчок is always a blow from the back. Then it's "a shove". (Do you know, Pierre, that it's a Russian slang for a loo or a toilet bowl? :-o ) We may get a shove to speed us up (if we are reluctant to go on) or to let us fall.
2. Гнилой has lots of meanings coming from the basic "rotten". Mean, corrupted etc. but there's another meaning - "weak" which is rare but registered in the Russian Thesaurus. "Гнилой человек" is a weak person who can't stand up to an open fight alongside with being mean, of low morale etc.

I think there's a juxtaposition here between weak mean blows in the back from rotten weaklings who try to make us do what we don't want and open slaps in the face from those who dare to openly stop us.

All in all, it gives us IMHO "cheap shoves" versus "open slaps" To make it look linear I may suggest "cheap jabs in the back" versus "open whacks in the muzzle" (in Russian it's a bit ruder than a face)

Disclaimer: This is only my interpretation *devil_smile*

Мы ищем смысл в уделах ->OMG, it should be "в удилах" -> in driving bit. ;)

Treugol'nyTreugol'ny    Четвртак, 29/03/2018 - 12:56

It does sound like "в удилах". It's a part of the bridle, that goes into the horse mouth. Bravo Brat for spotting it.

Во всех не сделанных делах - I think, it should be "Во всех несделанных делах" and it's meaning lies rather far from the "unfinished businesses". The author means that businesses were not finished because they hadn't been even started...
Thus there should be 'unacted' instead of the 'unfinished'...

Let's hope he will deign to join our discussion... :)

Something like this:

rotten(putrid) pushes
unacted(never doing) deeds
blank(unwritten) paper
