I myself have collection "Songs from soviet films and musicals", but I think it would be great to see collections from other countries.

I haven't seen too many musicals or musical films, so this collection is scant. It begins with cutesie numbers (Rogers and Hammerstein) and progresses to more sophisticated or dramatic.

Related Collections:
Zarina01's Musicals Collection
Lizzzard's Songs from soviet films and musicals:
Collection from the film Once.

Related song lists under OST as artist on LT:
Fiddler on the Roof (Artist song list)
La La Land (Artist song list)

THE DRAWBACK WITH ARTIST'S / OST SONGLISTS IS THAT THE SONGS ARE NOT IN CHRONOLOGICAL MOVIE SEQUENCE AND ALSO THERE MAY NOT BE A CLIP FROM THE MOVIE ON THE SONG PAGE. (Collections, however, allow a subscriber to put the songs in the correct sequence and add brief facts/trivia under the song description.)

The music of Phantom of the Opera (1986 musical) was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart. Lloyd Webber was married to Sarah Brightman at the time. Cervantes has become delusional, and so views himself as a valiant knight and the inn prostitute as a lovely maiden.

James Coco as 'Sancho' sings cheerfully withh silly lyric about why he loyally follows his delusional friend around.

The delusional Cervantes believes he must be properly knighted. He mistakes a barber's shaving basin for a golden helmet. He has taken a dirty rag from Aldonza, which he believes to be a pure token of the love of Dulcinea. The ceremony conducted by the innkeeper, using the token along with the golden helmet, stirs within Cervates the most passionate commitment to vanquishing the world's evils.

Aldonza had begun to believe that maybe she could be a Dulcinea to this kind, knightly man; she began to soften and let down her defenses. Tragically, this left her vulnerable and she was attacked by a group of pervs. This song expresses her agony. It always makes the collection author cry.

"'Memory" is a show tune from the 1981 musical Cats. It is sung by the character Grizabella, a one-time glamour cat who is now only a shell of her former self. The song is a nostalgic remembrance of her glorious past and a declaration of her wish to start a new life. Sung briefly in the first act and in full near the end of the show, 'Memory' is the climax of the musical, and by far its most popular and best-known song. Elaine Paige originated the role of Grizabella in the West End production of Cats, the first to perform the song publicly on stage." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_(song)
