Why do people substitute {Bridge}, {Pre-Chorus}, {Chorus x2} etc.?

I get annoyed when I see someone who takes shortcuts on their transcriptions, especially when they substitute {Bridge} or {Chorus} for the words of the bridge or chorus. Why do people do this?

Here's an example: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/el-primer-d%C3%ADa-del-resto-de-mi-vida-f...

It annoys me because when I'm following along with the lyrics, I have to scroll back up to find the chorus, bridge, etc.

Here's an example of the way I think it should be: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/Panic-Disco-I-Write-Sins-Not-Tragedies-ly...

Even though it's repetitive and lengthier, who cares? When I'm following along with the song, I don't want to have to jump around trying to find the words. It distracts me from enjoying the song.

Does anyone know why people do this? Maybe it'll get on my nerves less knowing that there's a good reason for it. The only thing I can think of is to save space or data, but those are both moot on the limitless canvas that is the internet.

Well, I don't think it's out of laziness because you just have to copy and paste what you already wrote. That's even faster than writing {Bridge}{Chorus} x2. It looks bad. Personally, I write the whole lyrics, and if I get them from another site, I complete them. I find it more annoying when they don't even write "chorus x2" and you have to guess.

Most of the time it's people copying and pasting the song as it is in another website and being to lazy to edit it. I mean... if they copied the song, maybe they are just interested in translating it (or submitting a request), so the format doesn't really matter to them. I don't know if it should matter... I remember reading somewhere around the forum that it was better to have them without the "chorus" labels and so, but I'm not sure it's a rule. I just like the lyrics to be COMPLETE because that's my personal preference.

But... I don't think it's something worth being mad about. I can always complete them myself, go to the "report a page" section and ask someone to help me out and change the lyrics for a "better" version.

I try to stay away from using such terms and post the actual words in full when possible. Not everyone has real proficiency and comfort in a language posted or it's text. They may just like a certain song and some may not know what a bridge, a pre-chorus, a chorus, a refrain, and such are, nor care. These are terms to music and not everyone is a student of them or has the vocabulary to support that. Although it may require a little more space to post it is laid out in full to try to minimize confusion. One thing notable is labeled choruses/refrains that may in fact not be uniform in their content. A chorus at the beginning may not in fact be the same at the end, nor it's repetitive lines to the song's close. This is quite a common occurrence.

To make the lyrics most visitor/user friendly it's nice to empathize with their possible needs. When you add in distractions in a music video then it compounds the possibility of misunderstandings further. Sometimes it's a good idea to walk the listener through and make their experience as user as visitor friendly as possible. They may have hearing deficits or other requirements. Something to consider. Some people have very varied tastes in music and differing levels in proficiency.

Since the majority of the lyrics presented here are accompanied with a video, when reading a translation it is nice to follow it while listening to the recording with the lyrics aligned with the original ones instead of having to jump to another section and then risk losing your place. I agree that it is better to have the lyrics in full and it would be nice to have a rule to that effect.
The songs with the redundant labeling for the various parts of the songs found on this site, most of the times, were copied and pasted from a “genius” website and the poster was, I hope, just too lazy to remove them.

Little children looking for song lyrics too don't understand the significance of that terminology. I have HEARD them sing these terms aloud. As if they were the lyrics. Although it may be good for a smile, it means that they don't understand. When they are explained, their meaning can be unfathomable to children. They need to be shown along the way in the simplest terms possible. This would also apply for those that may have special needs. Who may have comprehension issues, or are highly regimented thought processes in their learning and deviations cause disturbances in that flow.

I use [chorus] a lot when submitting songs because it's faster to translate when the chorus repeats.

But I don't like ths "Bridge", "Hook" and "Outro" stuff, that's normally only used at the genius lyrics sites. Maybe they focus on song structure more. Here the focus is translating, so I like to submit the lyrics as it is best for translating.

Try getting into the habit of copying and pasting. Time wise there might not be a big difference and you’ll be probably more appreciated. :)

While I do agree that this practice is annoying - for all the valid reasons mentioned before -, I think its hard to please every type of users. Some do prefer this, most of us don't. As a translator my rule of thumb is to follow the structure of the original lyrics text, as this is the only way to ensure the lines are in parity. Sometimes this means following the "inherited" annoying markup, shortcuts etc you mentioned. I think, if there was a rule it should be enforced on the side of the original lyrics.. Preferably for new uploads, otherwise you'd enforce translators to edit all their previous submits... So its not easy to handle this particular problem...

I think you misunderstood the topic: it’s the originals lyrics that are being discussed not the translations. Obviously, when translating, one is forced to follow the original lyrics in order to match the alignment.

This is the topic I wanted to raise myself. The same reasons are applicable to my complains: when one tries to follow the song using the lyrics provided, they shouldn't scroll back and forth trying to find the current spot. The idea of marking different parts of a song doesn't bother me that much, but still is a little annoying when translating a song. However if I transcribe a song by myself (as opposed to finding the lyrics elsewhere), I don't bother with marking parts at all.
The only repetition markers I allow myself to use are the ones when a single whole stanza is repeated, say, twice and only back-to-back, like here, here, or here.

EDIT: I'd like to propose a feature similar to annotations, but for the structure of the song. Because the annotations as I understand them are for contextual information about parts of the song, this feature seems out of its desired usage.

I personally dislike all these tags and repeat whatever needs to be repeated. As there are many opinions regarding the matter, I think people are free to do as they want with it, add the repetitions, the tags or whatever (like they do in booklets, indicating the first verse of the repeated stanza + suspension points).

I also hate when lyrics I want to translate contain those labels. I think lyrics on this website should exclusively contain what needs to be translated, of course in a reasonably formatted way. For that reason, I also believe sung parts which are not words (for example all of the na-na-na's here) should be spared, because they only serve to the music of the song, not the meaning. They're at the same level of instruments.

It just made me think of something. We could have a GoogleSpreadsheet open for contributions with translations of these specific terms and add it to https://lyricstranslate.com/en/resources

I might be wrong, but I think an user has done that already long ago with basic conversation lines. It'd be a means to help those who find lyrics with all these tags but do not really know the translations to those terms.

I can do it and add some translations into BR-Portuguese, I just need to understand how this specific tool of GoogleDrive functions :P

I've edited my comment above with my proposal. As I understand it by its name :) , this site is about lyrics and their translations, so let them be precisely this, and all the structure information should be an addenum.

Your proposal is fine too, but I don't think that that many people will look at it or even know about this table if it's hidden somewhere in resources. :(
