La Madre Comprensiva

El comer de la mañana
La tadre lo lleva atras
Que lo sepa la mi madre
Que yo quiero espozar.

No maldigas la mi madre
No maldigas sin razon
Ella quando era hermoza
Hizo amor con mi señor.

Una hora a la ventana
Otra hora en el balcon
Que lo sepa la mi madre
Que yo tengo una dolor.

De mis chicos años peni
Por azer mi ashugar
Tiño el mi señor padre
Me la juga al kumar.

The Understanding Mother

The food of the morning,
She takes it back in the afternoon
That my mother may get to know
That I want to marry.

Do not speak ill of me, mother
Do not speak ill of me, without reason
When you (1) were still beautiful
You (too) experienced (2) love with my father

One hour at the window
And then one hour at the balcony
That my mother may get to know
That I am suffering

Ever since my early years, I have suffered
To prepare my dowry
??? (3) but my father
Gambles it away

Tack!

Anmärkning:

(1) "El/Ella", normally third person singular, is used here now as the polite form of the second person singular.

(2) The literal translation of the text would be "made love", but this does not seem to honour the spirit of the song.

(3) The meaning of "tiño" is not clear. Suggestions are welcome.

[@polyglotus43]
Please fix the typo in these lines:

Do not speak bad of of me, mother > Do not speak bad of me, mother
Do not speak bad of of me, without reason > Do not speak bad of me, without reason

Thanks

(Also, shouldn't "bad" actually be "badly" here?)

Thanks for pointing out the typos. I have fixed those.

I have changed "do not speak bad" into "do not speak ill" which seems to be better English even when "bad" can be an adverb next to being an adjective.

Misinterpretation in two stanzas.

El comer de la mañana
La tadre lo lleva atras
Que lo sepa la mi madre
Que yo quiero espozar.

--- She's not eating, her mother left her breakfast and she will bring it back in the afternoon to show her mother that she won't eat unless she's allowed to marry the man she loves. She's using starvation as a tactic to sway her mother.

De mis chicos años peni
Por azer mi ashugar
Tiño** el mi señor padre
Me la juga al kumar.

--- From a young age she struggled to put together a dowry, but her father took possession** of it (through unfair means) and is squandering it.

Thanks for your comments. Do you want to say that the daughter brings the breakfast back? I would not agree. The daughter is a "first-person narrator" in this song, which would mean that the song should have used "llevo atras" instead of "lleva atras". So, it is the mother that takes back the breakfast,

Regarding "tiño", yes it seems to mean something like "took possession of", but of which infinitive would it be the past tense?
